PreSchool Information Form

Enrollment for St. Peter Catholic 2025-2026 School Year

Enrollment for PreK-8 starts on Monday, March 17th. You will receive an email with directions and a link to start the process. The email will go to the email account you have registered to your FACTS account. Registration will end March 28th. Remember, you do not create a new application, just select re-enroll. If you know your student is not returning, email Sara Garner (sgarner@stpeterjc.org) or Dr. Trachsel (gtrachsel@stpeterjc.org) by March 17th.

Calendar Update:

We believe it is safe to say we will not need to use another snow day...so at this time, we will NOT have school on Tuesday, April 22. If for some reason we need to cancel school before then, we will go back to having school that day. Watch the newsletter for any updates.

Tiny Tech Tip!

Take a moment to check in on your child’s device use! Whether they have a phone, tablet, or computer, now is a great time to sit down and ask about their activities. Have them show you their favorite games, how they chat with friends, and what they do when they’re bored.

This helps you understand their screen time and builds trust, making it easier for them to come to you with concerns. Remind them that their device is a privilege, and you’re there to keep them safe. Encourage open conversations about handling inappropriate or upsetting content, reinforcing that you are their safe place.

Some great conversation starters:

Casual Curiosity Approach:

"Hey, I feel like I haven’t seen what you’ve been into on your phone/tablet/computer lately. Show me what games you’ve been playing! What’s your favorite part?"

Why it works: This approach makes the conversation feel fun and invites the child to share something they enjoy.

Engaging in Their Interests:

"I know a lot of kids are into (Minecraft/Roblox/Fortnite/TikTok). Can you show me how it works? I’d love to see what you like about it!"

Why it works: It shows interest in their world rather than making them feel like they’re being monitored.

Checking in on Social Interactions:

"Who do you chat with the most on your device? What do you guys talk about?"

OR

"Have you ever gotten a weird or uncomfortable message from someone? What do you think you’d do if that happened?"

Why it works: It normalizes talking about online interactions and gives them an opening to bring up concerns.

Setting Expectations in a Supportive Way:

"I just want to make sure your device is a safe place for you. Let’s take a look at how things are going with your apps and messages together."

Why it works: It reminds them that parental checks are about safety, not punishment.

Use these conversation starters to help your child feel like you are a safe, approachable place for them. Remind them about the dangers of social media and how to navigate that world appropriately for their age (or not at all! Wait as long as possible for Social Media!)

After Care News

Preschool Parents are no longer picking preschoolers up from the playground during

aftercare. We are now sending them up the back staircase and through the cafeteria to meet

you at the desk like the older students. Hopefully, it won’t take long to make this a habit. Thank

you!

K-8th Parents: if your student(s) will not be at aftercare, please remember to include me in your

emails. Sending ONE email to ALL parties (ASC, Attendance, teachers) helps keep us all on the

same page.

Enrollment for next year is coming up. A couple of tips for those who want After School Care for

next year:

1. Make sure to check the small box for After School Care in the After School Care section of the form. That is the only indication for us.

2. Please enter the names for pick up persons, including your own, EXACTLY like they are now. Changing any bit of that throws off our system. Adding or deleting names is okay.

If you need to reach After Care, our number is (573) 636-8922 ext.129 or you may email the

ASC Director, Betsy Bartow at bbartow@stpeterjc.org

My name is Kathy Porting. I teach first grade here at St. Peter Catholic School. I’ve been teaching for 37 years with the last 27 being right here. First graders are some of my favorite people. They love school and learning new things! My husband, Keith, and I have two children. Our daughter, Ashley, is married and is a teacher, too! Our son, Nick, completed his graphic design degree and works in Columbia. Together we enjoy camping, or I should probably say “glamping”! We travel many weekends during the summer. In addition to camping, I enjoy reading, cooking, cheering on my favorite sports teams, the Cardinals and Chiefs, and spending time with our family and friends.

The St. Peter Welcome Committee invites you to join your parish family for coffee, doughnuts, juice, milk, and fruit after the 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM Masses on Sunday, March 9th in Selinger Gym. Come visit with your church family. All are welcome!
