[Article] Saying Thanks That Sticks | |
Great Scouting adventures don’t happen by accident—they’re powered by dedicated Scouters and youth who go above and beyond. Taking a moment to recognize their hard work keeps our community strong and energized.
Whether you want to present a formal award or send a quick thank-you, Scouts Canada provides clear reference guides to help:
A meaningful thank-you only takes a few minutes, but its impact lasts all season. Whom will you recognize today?
| | [Article] Connecting Vision to Local Action: Scouts Canada’s Strategic Direction | | |
Scouts Canada’s Bringing Communities Together strategic plan sets a clear path forward—placing young people at the centre, easing the administrative burden on volunteers, and expanding Scouting’s impact across local communities.
This national vision directly shapes day-to-day Group operations:
-
Youth-Led Leadership: Empowers Section Leadership Teams to drive program planning (Plan-Do-Review), while Scouters mentor rather than manage.
-
Volunteer-Centric Support: Streamlines local administration, onboarding, and logistics so Section Scouters can focus energy on delivering safe, high-quality outdoor adventures.
-
Community Connection & Inclusion: Welcomes more youth and families across Alberta and the Northwest Territories by reducing barriers and creating accessible, welcoming entry points for all.
Want to learn more? Explore the full breakdown of our goals and roadmap on the Scouts Canada Strategic Plan Hub.
When local Groups deliver strong, youth-led programs supported by streamlined operations, national goals become local reality.

| | PLANNING AND REGISTERING AN EVENT | | |
Are you planning a special camp, rally, or multi-group adventure? The Scouts Canada Event Management Playbook maps out your event's lifecycle, from the initial idea through post-event review, to ensure every experience is safe, youth-led, and manageable. Before diving into logistics, start at the Idea Stage by following the Event Assessment & Approval Procedure.
It is important to secure early sign-off from the Council Key 3 for low-risk events, or National Leadership for medium- and high-risk events.
If you need help navigating the procedure and documentation, or to notify us of a missing event on the confirmed or pending lists, email nlc-events@scouts.ca.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Tonille Mallette!
We want to extend a massive Thank You and fond farewell to Tonille Mallette as she transitions out of her roles with the Northern Lights Council!
Tonille has been a dedicated advocate for youth-led adventure and a driving force across NLC in various roles over her ten-year tenure. From serving as a vital contact on the NLC Events Team—helping coordinate memorable gatherings like the Edmonton Elks and Oil Kings Scout Nights and Sleepovers—to championing STEM programming for our youth, her impact has been felt by Scouters and youth alike across Alberta and the NWT.
Her commitment to supporting volunteers, elevating program quality, and building community has left a lasting mark on our Council. We wish Tonille the absolute best in her next chapter—she will be deeply missed!
