Hello April,
I'm not one to make an annual New Year's Resolution, but I am a planner, and this year comes with many changes. It was obvious that rethinking my daily routine to make sure the art business priorities were reset given new circumstances. Although my art production was less last year than my norm, there are a lot of paintings coming home from HorseSpirit Arts Gallery as their business of 10 years comes to an end. Although I must continue to paint to maintain my sanity, I know my time allocation between creating and the business side of art needs to shift more to business.
Without a gallery I think I need to focus on new sales from different sources. Here are some options I'm considering and would love your thoughts on priorities:
- Find a new gallery or two: although I know I would like a local gallery perhaps adding a gallery elsewhere would make sense. The mixture of subject matter in my paintings from urban to rural and oceanside, and figures involved in everyday activities, musicians, shop owners, bicycle riders and pretty much any activity scene in the public lends it to many regions of the country.
- Do you have any ideas on places you know that you think I should consider?
-
Add more of my art in my online store. Check it out here.
-
Do you think I need to add any new categories to what I have?
- How many pieces per category before it gets too overwhelming?
- Set up a classroom in my home studio. There will be only 3 or 4 tables, but I think the setting will allow me to work with a small number of students and better focus on what each student needs to develop their own style.
-
In addition to my home classroom do you think online courses are still of interest? I stopped online classes in 2023, but I see lots of people still teaching online.
-
I have a one-day workshop set up with a local art group for the end of March and will also be teaching a 5-day figure painting class at Cheap Joes Art Stuff in Boone, NC.
