Rev. Kerry at Concord Presbyterian: Celebrating 200 Years & a Future of Faith

On November 1, 1826, Concord Presbyterian Church was officially chartered as a Presbyterian congregation. On November 1, 2026, Concord celebrated its 200th anniversary, and I was able to be a part of this celebration.

Today’s Concord is smaller than it was in 1826. Their Clerk of Session says that worship is now “about seven or eight of us.” Note the “is” part of that sentence: Concord is still Concord!

The celebration today brought nearly 40 of its past members home to the church of their youth. Because I sat facing the congregation, I tried to count the attendees and believe I saw 140 folks. Take a look at the above photo of the inside of the sanctuary: every pew filled; chairs in the aisle; folks in the narthex; balcony full. 140!

By now you are wondering why I said 40 Concord members were there and then 140 people filled the church. How might that math work?

Concord made a conscious decision to not just wither away slowly. They began to honestly think about a future that would not include them. This decision process began three years ago when their chance hiring of a worker new to the area led to many conversations with that individual’s home church, and eventually, a way forward for Concord was provided by the Spirit... find out how!

PDA Grants Helping Countries Cope with El Niño

The below excerpts are from a recent PNS article by Darla Carter.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance has awarded multiple grants to help partners in places like El Salvador and Guatemala cope with the negative effects of El Niño, a weather phenomenon that is expected to have international impacts for months to come.

As a ministry of Presbyterian Life & Witness, PDA primarily is helping affected communities by supplying food and hygiene supplies.

“The droughts that are happening are affecting, of course, livestock,” said the Rev. Edwin González-Castillo, who manages PDA. Also, “many communities who were developing or have been working on agriculture projects have been facing the situation of, ‘OK, we have the seeds, … we have the training, but now, we don't have water.’” Read full article...
