Action Plans in Full Swing in 2023!

We are excited to announce that the Lawrence County Adult Education Advisory Board (LCAEAB) is now in full swing! In April's first official meeting, the Board reviewed the work completed in 2022 and was in total agreement to move forward into the "Action Phase" by dividing into five subcommittees that would create measurable change in Lawrence County's Adult Education arena:

  • StoneGate Academic Partner Group
  • Metrics
  • Employer Relations
  • Ivy Tech Strategic Planning
  • Adult Education Coordinator Search

The subcommittees reconvened on June 12 and were able to set subcommittee-specific goals, create action steps, and determine timelines for educational initiatives in Lawrence County. Future subcommittee and full board meetings will continue throughout 2023 and into 2024 facilitated by Regional Opportunity Initiatives (ROI) Advisors, Michi McClain and Emily Menkedick, who have been tremendous supporters of this project. The high caliber of advisors' and members' knowledge is outstanding and the passion this group shares for improving the educational opportunities and quality of life will bring exciting change to Lawrence County community members.

General Motor's Community Impact Grant gives $50,000 to Bedford-Area Nonprofits

Lawrence County Economic Development CEO, Shance Sizemore, attended GM's 2023 Community Impact Grant presentation in honor of receiving a $10,000 grant. The grant award is projected to be used for the highly successful Co-hort #12 Introduction to Local Jobs & Skills (ILJAS) class. The 3-week class provides hands-on training in Welding, Machining, and Construction. Participants also receive CPR, first aid, and Stop the Bleed certifications; work-site safety training by GM; employability skills training from Purdue University staff; and the opportunity to meet local employers in search of new employees. Each participant leaves ILJAS with a "Next Steps" plan with the intent to have the skill set(s) to earn a living wage.
