Sunday Sept. 13, 2026 was the kickoff day for gathering our parish and friends. Due to rain our church service and annual picnic was moved from Bowdoin Park to Trinity. Fr. Michael Phillips led us in worship. Chefs Connie and Don grilled out burgers and dogs for our picnic in the parish hall. Cliff's band entertained us with British oldies and got us up, dancing, and singing along. We enjoyed plenty of good food and fun!!!!
If you accidentally took a black REI raincoat instead of your Goodfellow raincoat on Sunday after the festivities, would you please exchange them on the coat hangers in the parish hall coat rack. This exchange would be greatly appreciated.
Also someone's navy blue umbrella was also taken by mistake on September 20th. If you accidentally took that, please return it to the parish hall.

As we begin the new SDEC, Pam Bunker will be starting a process of sharing event information to be posted in each parish. With that said, Pam will be obtaining the name and number for any interested contact person from each parish. This is a good way to develop interaction and fellowship with all three parishes. She can be reached at (845) 204-4572 or mommybee10@hotmail.com.
We have also started the process of the development of the three member Trinity Search Committee (each of our three SDEC churches will have a Search Committee) by asking Trinity's vestry for a volunteer to represent Trinity. Nancy Drennan accepted the challenge and presented the request for one more volunteer from the parish. She did receive one interested person at this time, and we will continue to notify parishioners of the request as several were absent on Sunday.

Our next meeting will be this Tuesday, October 6th, and we will discuss “The Correspondent” by Virginia Evans.

Last Monday we announced new property grant guidelines.
Recently I had the joy of visiting Church of the Holy Trinity on East 88 Street in Manhattan.
Long ago, Holy Trinity sponsored me for ordination. At different times Ann and I both served on the vestry. It’s a really warm community of welcome.
The congregation is completing a major roof project. Rector John Beddingfield and the vestry noted they were preparing to repair their bell tower— thirty years ago, a friend who’s still a leader in the congregation and I co-chaired a campaign for earlier repairs on the same tower.
-
Property work is never done. I’ve recently had the opportunity to speak with Dr. Bob Johansen, who helps groups look to the future. He describes the difference between a problem and a dilemma.
- He says, a problem can be fixed. A dilemma is messy, continuing, and doesn’t end. We can’t fix dilemmas— but we can follow our values and address them well.
Our properties present a dilemma for nearly every congregation.
Re-envisioning stewardship of our property serves as a Mission Priority. Over the last two years, we have increased our capacity to support local property needs. Property support has been a 2026 priority.
- We have committed to double the amount of property grants to $800,000 annually, to be funded through a growing property endowment.
The Trustees’ property support committee has developed revised guidelines for the increased funding. Trustees formally adopted the guidelines earlier this month.
- The guidelines are spiritually, pastorally, and strategically grounded to care for local mission through property projects.
Grant requests will be considered for (1) church, (2) rectory, (3) parish hall, (4) other church buildings, and (5) parish grounds.
-
There are three kinds of grants: (1) emergency grants for urgent unanticipated property concerns; (2) consultant grants for professional services to improve project and strategic planning; and (3) missional grants for use of the parish space, including income-producing activities.
Grants reflect our values as a Diocese, beginning with a local focus:
- Expand vibrant mission congregational activities and promote growth;
- Address historic inequities in property investment affecting congregations of color (reparations);
- Support energy efficiency, climate resilience, and environmental sustainability (Creation Care);
- Ensure safe church accommodations.
The next deadline is November 8. You can see the complete guidelines here. También estamos traduciendo al español.
The application will be available on the website this week; you can also ask your regional canon for more information.
- We are launching a search for a new property support director to expand staff capacity alongside expanded funding capacity
Thanks to the Trustee Property Support chair Kristin Miles, chief of finance & operations Judi Allen, and the property support committee for their work. I’m grateful to Trinity Mission Real Estate director James Clark for his advice on the guidelines.
- Health care costs for clergy and lay employees also cause a dilemma. Last week, canons began regional meetings in Orange, Rockland, and Westchester Counties to discuss insurance increases for next year.
The Holy Spirit moves at ground level. We’ll continue to learn together and work together on the dilemmas that our local communities face.
Blessings for the weeks ahead.
Grace & Peace,
