Wetsuit or Drysuit?

Greetings!

In the 007 movie Goldfinger, James Bond unzips his dive suit to reveal a white dinner jacket. Did he have on a wetsuit or a drysuit? We’re not sure!

A wetsuit allows a thin layer of water between your skin and the neoprene. Your body heats the trapped water, which keeps you warm. A wetsuit should fit you like another layer of skin. Your body—and the dinner jacket—get wet.

A drysuit keeps water out. You wear thermal layers underneath to stay warm. It’s loose-fitting and filled with air. Your body—and the dinner jacket—stay dry.

Bond’s suit is close-fitting like a wetsuit. But his jacket is dry. So, which is it? Hollywood at its best!

PADI Dry Suit Diver Specialty

New Year’s Day dive at Mermet Springs

Why wear a drysuit?

  • Extend your dive season into the cooler months
  • Explore colder dive destinations
  • Stay in the water longer before getting cold

Extra skills are needed to dive in a drysuit safely. Master them in our PADI Dry Suit Diver Specialty course.

Make your first dive of 2027 on New Year’s Day! Complete your training in November or December, with your open water dives at Mermet Springs, IL, on January 1.
