Leadership Team Updates

Dear St. Alphonsus Families,

We hope you had a great long weekend and were able to enjoy some extra relaxation and family time! Our teachers & staff participated in our annual Sustaining the Mission in-service, where we spend time learning more about the mission of Catholic Schools, why we teach the things we teach, and deepening our relationship with our faith and each other.

A few reminders for this week:

  • As more winter weather approaches, just a reminder about how school closings work at St. Alphonsus: St. Alphonsus School follows the Greendale Public School system when closing for inclement weather. If for some reason Greendale Public Schools are not in session (ie, they have a scheduled vacation day while we do not), and there is inclement weather, St. Alphonsus will follow the Franklin School District. All announcements for such closings will be placed on local radio, television stations, and television news websites. Also, families will receive an email, text message, and voicemail message with closing information, and we will post to our social media channels and website as well. If school should be canceled, the hot lunch menu will be followed accordingly upon return to school (ie, the canceled day's lunch would be skipped).

  • Cougar Carnival is coming up fast! The deadline to pre-order your tickets has been extended to Wednesday, so check out all the details below. Don't forget to order extra tickets so you can help tape Mrs. Schermetzler to the wall!

  • Last call for a free car magnet for your family--please fill out the form below if you didn't receive one at Open House.

  • Please be sure to check out all the great updates on our all-school service projects below as well! We are so proud of St. Alphonsus students and families for stepping up and helping our communities. Thank you!

Have a great week!

Best regards,

Ms. Parey, Principal

Mrs. Schermetzler & Mrs. Bruhn, Leadership Team

Students Visit Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra!

Our 3rd through 8th grade students had a special field trip last week! Students attended the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra to see “Rhythm Rhapsody.” A docent from the MSO also came to visit St. Alphonsus recently and shared a presentation with the students to help them prepare to see the orchestra perform. Mrs. Peterson explained all of the music the students heard and got them excited for the trip!

It was an awesome performance and everyone loved seeing the symphony.

Service Program Updates

The St. Alphonsus Food Pantry Service Project is Going Great!

With Valentine's Day in February, we are showing our community our love and care through this project to benefit the St. Alphonsus Food Pantry.

This project will consist of collecting food items to stock the pantry, and will also give students a chance to take a tour of the food pantry and have a Q&A session with the pantry's regularly staffed volunteers. All students will have a tour of the Food Pantry on either Tuesday, February 17 or Wednesday, February 18.

The Service Project Leadership Team has decided that we will donate "meal kits" to the pantry so that those who come to the pantry can get a full meal kit and not just random items that could make up a meal.

Each week we will feature a new meal kit and the items needed. Each grade will be responsible for donating an assigned item so that we can ensure full meal kits.

This week we are putting together PASTA DINNER KITS. Here are the classroom assignments:

Grades 3K, 6, & 8: Noodles of all types

Grades 4K, 1, & 7: Sauce of all kinds--spaghetti, alfredo, etc.

Grades 5K, 2, & 3: Sauce of all kinds--spaghetti, alfredo, etc.

Grades 4 & 5: Noodles of all types

Next week we will be putting together BREAKFAST DINNER KITS!

Our Adopt-A-Vet Program is Off to A Great Start, Too!

If you remember, St. Alphonsus will be partnering with the American Legion Greendale Post 416 and will be adopting 7 local veterans. In February and March, students will spend time learning about the lives of each of veteran and our older students will create a presentation to honor their service and life accomplishments. In April, each veteran will be honored in a school-wide program. Each veteran will also be presented with a special gift as a thank you for all their sacrifices and service.

First though, our 6th & 7th Graders interviewed our vets so we could get to know them better! Now that the interviews are complete, the 6th and 7th graders along with their veteran will be paired with another classroom in the school. The 6th and 7th graders will create a presentation of their vet so that each classroom can get to know them!

We cannot wait for March when we will host a social gathering for the vets and all of our students.

Vacation Bible Camp Survey

Last summer, we had an awesome time with our Totus Tuus Vacation Bible Camp. Due to some changes in staff at the Archdiocese, we are not able to do Totus Tuus ths year. We do however, want to have a Camp this summer (again, in conjunction with St. Martin of Tours Parish). We would like to offer this half day camp (different from last year) at a time of day that is best for as many families as possible. If you are interested in sending your child(ren) to a totally Catholic, totally fun Vacation Bible Camp the week of July 13, 2025, please take a moment to fill out this survey.

Parish Mission is coming up on March 2, 3, & 4!

This year's parish mission is all about the source of all authentic, lasting hope: Jesus. And our speaker is a great man by the name of Rich Harter. And the best news is that we are offering child care for those that need it!

We do need a general idea of how many kids are coming so we can plan accordingly. If you know you will be making use of child care for the Parish Mission, please sign up at this link.

You can learn more about the Parish Mission via the flyer below!
