Holidays Impact Inspections & Well Water Testing

Wake County government will be closed for holidays on the following dates:

December 25, 26, and 27, 2023

January 1, 2024

January 15, 2024

No inspections will be performed on these days.

The Wake County Water Quality Laboratory will be closed Monday, December 25 through Monday, January 1. Friday, December 22 is the last day for wellhead inspections and well sampling before the holidays. As usual, request your wellhead inspection as early as possible. Water testing on new wells can take weeks to complete and clean water tests are required before issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy.

New Wastewater Regulations

On January 1, 2024, the new state-wide wastewater regulations (15A NCAC 18E) become effective. These rules govern wastewater treatment and dispersal from wastewater (septic) systems, as defined in G.S. 130A-334(15), serving single or multiple-family residences, places of business, or places of public assembly.

Significant changes have been made related to applicability, setbacks from septic systems, daily design flows for residential and commercial facilities, and design/installation requirements. Please take the time to review the regulations and prepare for how the changes made will impact your proposed projects. A “working” copy of the new regulations can be viewed on the NC DHHS – On-Site Water Protection Branch website: https://ehs.dph.ncdhhs.gov/oswp/

Wake County will be revising its local wastewater regulations (Regulations Governing Wastewater Treatment and Dispersal Systems in Wake County) in the months following the 18E rule implementation.

Well and Septic Contractors Sought for Wake Housing & Community Revitalization Programs

Wake County recently implemented a Well and Septic Pilot Assistance Program that provides financial assistance to qualified residents for the repair of failing private wells and septic systems. Contractors are required to be Wake County Vendors to be eligible to bid for those projects.

Installers/Contractors interested in becoming a Wake County Vendor can contact John Duncan at Triangle Construction at 919-616-2646 for the application process.

Coming Soon!

Wake County Stormwater Design Manual will be released for public comment in January 2024.

Happy Holidays!
