Spotlight on Honorarium Group Christmas in the Bay

This is your chance to help Santa

Christmas in the Bay is looking for organizing committee members

Christmas in the Bay, the annual family-friendly kick-off to the holidays, is looking for volunteers to organize the 2026 event.

“The current organizing committee is made up of members who have been involved for five or more years,” says Colin Glover, one of the organizers. “And it’s time to give some new folks an opportunity to get involved.”

Christmas in the Bay is a grassroots event that offers free outdoor and indoor activities at the crossroads in Upper Tantallon in late November. Activities have included ATV hayrides, live singing and dancing performances, face-painting, balloon animals, a kids’ craft, a colouring contest, a fire truck tour, hot chocolate, popcorn, and hot dogs—and of course a visit with Santa. The finale every year is a tree-lighting.

Colin says the program has evolved to make this a good time to recruit new leads: “Christmas in the Bay has become really streamlined, with providers who know the event and fit in seamlessly with one another’s activities.”

“The current committee will provide program details and contact information for the activity providers to the new team, and we’ll be available to consult as needed,” he adds. “There’s a bit of work to do in late September, with most of the details sorted from October to November. But getting the committee together before that will allow for a more relaxed transition.”

Sharon Jessup Joyce, a member of the Christmas in the Bay organizing committee for the past six years, says, “It’s been a privilege—and a lot of fun—to be involved in offering this lovely event in our community. We’re looking forward to seeing what some new volunteers will bring to it.”

If you’re interested in learning more about being part of the organizing committee for Christmas in the Bay, please leave a message on the event’s Facebook page or email sjessupjoyce@gmail.com or colinglover@homehardware.ca.

Toonie Tip

Oops! Wrong Number?

It happens! Sometimes after playing your toonies, you realize the number on your sticker isn’t quite right.

We’d love to help, but lottery rules say once a stickered toonie is placed in the chest, the number can’t be changed.

Here’s a pro tip: grab one of our bright yellow BTC stickers, write your registered number(s) on it, and stick it to a card in your wallet. That way, your lucky number is always ready when it’s time to play!

Thanks for playing! Good luck in the draw!

Wait! Have you checked these numbers?

The numbers shown here are unregistered, and unregistered numbers cannot win.

Please check these numbers and ask your BTC-playing friends and family to take a look too. Some numbers are played week after week, with no prospect of winning. We'd like to help those players.

If you're playing one of these numbers, please email or call us at 902-222-8560.

Phone calls always go to voicemail, so please leave a message, and we’ll get back to you between Monday and Friday.

Get your Masthead News at community locations—or read it online

The January issue of The Masthead News is out this week and includes stories about a local resident named last month to the Order of Canada, a fundraiser for the two families that lost their house in a New Year’s Day fire, a weekend cold-water swimming group being formed, and much more.

A reminder that the Masthead no longer delivers the newspaper by Canada Post. Instead, you can pick up a copy of the paper at over 200 community locations, including stores, service stations, restaurants, medical offices, pharmacies, and many others. Some of those locations are listed here, with the list being continually updated.

And remember, you can always read the latest issue and back issues of the paper online here.

Meet our Rollover model, Ozzy: The Puzzle Guardian

a white cat with some black spots sitting in a puzzle box

Five years ago, a quick trip to Otis and Clementine’s for a book turned into something far more life-changing: two kittens, one of whom would become the unforgettable Ozzy.

With his unique mix of adorable charm and prickly independence, Ozzy has never been the typical lap cat. He prefers his own rules, his own space, and—most importantly—his own favourite pose, which Susan often catches him striking a pose.

Ozzy’s personality shines brightest during family activities. Whether it’s lounging regally in his chosen spot or “helping” with a jigsaw puzzle (which usually means supervising with a look of mild disapproval), he’s always part of the action in his own way. His quirks make him special, and his presence is a reminder that love isn’t about perfection—it’s about embracing the unique spirit that makes each pet irreplaceable.
