Rally Day

September 7

On Rally Day we gear up for our fall schedule of two services and Christian Education (beginning the following Sunday, September 14). Following the 10a service, parents will accompany their K4-5th grade students to the Children’s Hall to meet their teachers and get (re)acquainted with their classrooms. Middle and High School students will meet their teachers in the Youth Wing. Everyone else is invited to our Ministry Fair to explore opportunities for getting involved in our regular parish life. We will conclude with fellowship over a lunch of hamburgers and hotdogs.

CotATalks • Parish Hall • Various Presenters

A miscellany of short talks by speakers and topics that come by invitation of the Dean. Personal witnesses, biblical teaching, reflections on Christian living, deepening your relationship with the Lord, sharing the hope within you, and loving in difficult times and situations are just a sampling of the types of offerings found in this class.

Anglicanism 101 • Conference Room • Led by Nathan White

Join our Theologian in Residence, Nathan White, in the Conference Room as he explores the history, theology, and liturgy of Anglicanism.

CotAStudies • Classroom 105

A more in-depth, sequential class on a biblical theme, book of the Bible, work of Christian literature, or relevant cultural topic.

Ephesians • Led by Cameron Ramsey, Jonathan Stone, and Nathanael Knott

September 14 through October 26

What is the gospel according to Paul? Does it have any significance for our lives today? How then should we live? Cameron Ramsey, Jonathan Stone, and Nathanael Knott will lead us in a 7-week study of Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, in which he addresses these topics and more. Come follow along as we explore these questions together!

A History of the Creeds • Led by Ed Smithers

November 9 - December 14

In worship, we regularly say the Nicene Creed and sometimes the Apostles Creed. They are, as Martin Luther put it, “the Bible in miniature”—a basic summary of what Christians ought to believe. But how did the historic creeds develop? What were the issues facing the early church? What is the relationship between the authority of Scripture (the biblical canon) and the creeds? We’ll explore these questions and more.

Life Together • Classroom 103• Led by Sarah and Will Peden, Amber & Larry Cook

A class for folks in their 30’s to 40’s—couples and singles. Warm and conversational, this class is designed for fellowship and relationship building, melded with exploring biblical essentials.

College Hour • Parlor • Led by Heath Milford and Brayden Hembree

Join our community of college-age students each Sunday morning for fellowship, food, and study! In recognition of its 1,700th anniversary, we’ll be going through the Nicene Creed this Fall.

Beginning September 14 & 16

John Barr and Eric Speece invite the men of the parish to step through a window into Paul’s 2 letter to the Corinthians.

"This might be Paul’s most stunning letter—it’s where Paul is most personal. He unveils his most transparent self. He takes us most deeply into a world we know— the raw places of suffering, his aching disappointments and desperate fears, his weaknesses and loneliness. He shows us a man who comes to the end of himself, and he admits it. It becomes his door to discovering God lifting him from the ruins, filling him with the dawn of resurrection.  He discovers the comfort of God, the fellowship of Jesus. In the worst place, he finds himself in the best place—everything is changed. God meets him where he is, enters his weakness, and brings him through.

How much do we need that! When we are unbearably crushed, we need to visit all the vistas in Paul’s journey, where we can say with him: “When I am weak, God is strong; when I fall deeper into sorrow, there is the God of all comfort; at the bottom of my pit, here is a vista!” We want more of this God of all comfort, the God of all mercies.

Eric and John invite you to six sessions in this letter. There will be two different meeting times: Sunday evenings and Tuesday mornings. Please come to either one!"

Stewardship

A DEEPLY ROOTED PARISH FLOURISHES ON THE GENEROSITY OF EACH ONE WHO SAYS ...

“CotA is my church.”

Giving is an act of worship, a way of acknowledging everything we have comes from the hand of the Lord, giving what already belongs to Him. It is a tangible demonstration of gratitude for His provision, trust and belief in His continued provision and faithfulness, and participation in the fellowship of the body of Christ.

Offerings plates are passed as an act of worship on Sundays, or you may give through your bank's bill pay, by post, or online.
