2026 COA Awards

Celebrating Excellence Across

Canadian Orthopaedics

This year’s COA Awards highlighted members whose leadership and service strengthen the COA’s core priorities of education, engagement, advocacy, and quality. Each recipient has contributed meaningfully to the growth and direction of our specialty.

Thank you to all our award recipients for embodying the very best of the COA. Their dedication strengthens our profession and inspires us all.

The following honours were presented by immediate Past President, Dr. Sukhdeep Dulai at the recent Annual Meeting in St. John’s.

Service to the COA Award - Dr. Peter Glavas

The Service to COA Award celebrates volunteers who consistently show up, speak up, and lift others through their dedication. For 22 consecutive years, Dr. Peter Glavas has contributed to the COA, most notably through his eight-year stewardship of the Basic Science Course. His work has ensured that this foundational curriculum remains relevant, resilient, and essential to orthopaedic training.

We thank Dr. Glavas for his commitment to education and service.

Changemaker Award - Dr. Véronique Godbout

The Changemaker Award recognizes leaders who advance equity, representation, and cultural transformation within orthopaedics. This year, we honoured Dr. Véronique Godbout, a COA member for 23 years whose thoughtful leadership has shaped both the Quebec Orthopaedic Association and the COA Board of Directors. Her ability to propose meaningful ideas—and see them through with heart and purpose—has made a lasting impact on our community.

Congratulations, Dr. Godbout.

Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr. Marc J. Moreau

The 2026 COA Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Dr. Marc J. Moreau, whose 44-year membership and extraordinary career reflect a lifetime of service, mentorship, and compassion. A paediatric orthopaedic surgeon at the Stollery Children’s Hospital, and Past President of the COA, Dr. Moreau has shaped countless careers and cared for families with humility and excellence. His leadership as Assistant Dean of Admissions at the University of Alberta opened doors for future physicians, and his global humanitarian work—shared with his wife Barb—through the Canadian Association of Medical Teams Abroad (CAMTA) has extended Canadian orthopaedic care far beyond our borders.

Dr. Moreau’s legacy has impacted the people he has trained, the values he has instilled, and the communities he has served.
