ICS will now have both a middle school and a high school team competing at the WA State Science Olympiad at Central Washington University (Ellensburg) on April 18.

These results reflect the students’ dedication and the strong support of their families. We also recognize the PTSA Science Club student executive team: Vidhur Prabhu, Grace Yu, Sabeha Shaikot, and Selene Zhu, for their leadership in running the PTSA club every week.

This achievement truly represents a community-wide success, and we are proud of what our students have accomplished.

Board Seek Nominations for ICS PTSA Awards

The ICS PTSA Board is accepting nominations for the following awards:

OUTSTANDING EDUCATOR: This award is given in recognition of an individual who goes beyond the normal expectations of their job to make the learning environment fun, beneficial, and challenging.

PHOENIX AWARD: This award is given in recognition of an individual who has done an exceptional job on a task or committee.

Note that a parent or staff member can only receive a specific award once, so please consult the ICS PTSA website to view prior years’ recipients.

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

IB CAS Parent Volunteer Information Meeting - April 8

Are you interested in working directly with a small group of high school students as a CAS Advisor, helping them develop their IB Diploma portfolios? ICS is seeking parent volunteers to support Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) in the IB Diploma Program.

CAS is at the heart of the Diploma Program and involves students in a range of activities alongside their academic studies to help them learn through real life experiences; reflect on athletic, creative, and service activities they may already be involved in; take on new challenges; and connect with the local or global community through acts of service.

Parent volunteers as CAS Advisors would be required to attend an in-person training at ICS on Friday, August 28 and meet with students in person during nine Friday morning classes throughout the next school year.

These are the different roles: CAS Roles at ICS. Ideally, parent volunteers for CAS can make a two-year commitment to see the initial cohort of juniors through their senior year and successful completion of the CAS requirements. Parents may not advise their own children. Both middle school and high school parents are encouraged to consider becoming a CAS Advisor.

There will be a virtual meeting via Teams for interested parents on Wednesday, April 8 from 6:00 - 7:00 PM to learn more about the CAS program requirements, CAS Advisor responsibilities, review specific dates and times, and go over any questions.

Follow this link to join Jennifer Ann, the IB CAS Coordinator, to learn more about this meaningful parent volunteer opportunity.

AP Research Presentations

The AP Research seniors will be giving 15 - 20 minute presentations over the next couple of weeks, presenting the research they have conducted throughout the year. The College Board requires two adult observers, in addition to the teacher, for each presentation.

Please sign up here if you are available for a spot. No training is required. The presentations will be in Room 149 (Mr. Plank's room).

Chaperones Needed for 8th Grade Olympia Field Trip

Ms. Houlihan is seeking two additional chaperones for the 8th grade Olympia field trip on April 7.

If you are able to volunteer, please email: wfeng@icsptsa.org or apanchap@icsptsa.org. This is a full day trip, departing at 7:30 AM and returning during 6th period. Thank you!

Lunchroom Volunteers

ICS lunchroom volunteers now need to obtain their Food Worker Card. Obtaining your card is a relatively short task, costs $10, and is valid for 2 years. This is beneficial for all kitchen volunteers to have in order to keep all our kids safe and healthy. Apply here and you can print a copy of your card and bring in the next time you volunteer:

FROM THE SCHOOL

Snack Request from School's Office

We are reaching out to request snack donations to support our students throughout the school day. Since our school does not offer a breakfast program, some students may arrive without having eaten, which can impact their focus, energy, and overall well-being. Ensuring consistent access to food helps students stay engaged, ready to learn, and supported both academically and emotionally.

We’re so grateful for the ongoing support from our community, your generosity truly helps our students feel cared for and ready to learn. Thank you for helping us keep hungry minds (and bellies!) happy!

You can drop off any of the following items at the main office or in Student Services:

  • Skinny Pop: Popcorn
  • Annie's: Cheddar bunnies and crackers
  • Yum Earth: Organic fruit snacks
  • Made Good: Granola mini snacks, cookies, and bars
  • Baked Brand Chips
