2024 World Facilities Day Celebration

World Facilities Day was celebrated at UMB on Tuesday, May 21 and included opening remarks from senior leadership, sharing progress on strategic goals, team-building activities centered around UMB's core values, and more.

Electrical Infrastructure Project Presented at Utility Conference

Electrical Project Manager Jagdish Jani (D&C) co-presented "Powering Through: Forward Thinking Design and Committed Owner Facilitate Phased Replacement of Campuswide Electrical Power System" along with RMF Engineering at the Big Ten and Friends Utility Conference at Penn State University on May 21. Great job, Jagdish!

Edsel Spellman Participating in O&M Elevator Apprenticeship Program

An apprenticeship program in O&M's Elevator Shop is providing on-the-job training and helping to grow the team's expertise while filling an historically hard-to-fill position. After moving from the Electric Shop to the Elevator Shop, Edsel Spellman (left) was able to test out of the first 2 years of the Certified Elevator Technician program and skip to the advanced curriculum.

Welcoming Our Clean Campus Ambassadors to the UMB Team

If you see a member of the EVS team outside outfitted in an unfamiliar new uniform, you’re seeing an initiative several years in the making. What you’re not seeing is litter on campus. That’s because the uniforms are worn by the University’s Clean Campus Ambassadors, a team assembled to help enhance the look, feel, and vibrancy of the University of Maryland, Baltimore's (UMB) outdoor spaces. While the uniforms are new, the people behind the uniforms have been doing their thing for the past 12 to 15 months.

Temporary Sidewalk Closure on Greene Street Due to Construction

Due to ongoing construction in support of the University of Maryland, Baltimore's (UMB) electrical distribution project, the east sidewalk on North Greene Street starting at Redwood Street and heading south until the Dr. Samuel D. Harris National Museum of Dentistry is closed to pedestrians from Monday, June 10, through Wednesday, July 31, each day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. During this time frame, signage will be posted to redirect pedestrians coming from Redwood Street across to the western side of Greene Street. Flaggers will be present to direct pedestrian traffic.

EVS’ Meyer Named University’s May Employee of the Month

On May 29, Denise Meyer, director of Environmental Services (EVS) was named UMB's May Employee of the Month.

“I’m surrounded by terrific people,” Meyer, director of UMB Environmental Services (EVS), said during the May 29 videoconference where she was surprised with the award. “I wouldn’t be here or be able to even stand in these shoes and walk this walk without each of you. So I truly appreciate it.”
