RONCALLI HIGH SCHOOL WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
OCTOBER 4, 2024
| |
🍁 Enjoy this beautiful fall break! We look forward to seeing the students back on Monday, October 14. 🍂
Congratulations to seniors Grace Daming and Mia Michalak, who achieved a perfect score (36) on the Reading portion of the September ACT. This is the second time Grace Daming scored a 36 on Reading. She also did it in February of 2024. Way to go, Royals! We are proud of you!
FALL BREAK & SPRING BREAK POLICY
School policy does not provide for any early start of, or extension to, either fall or spring break. No student will be excused from school on any day(s) the week before or the week after fall or spring break. Any student’s absence on these days will be considered unexcused. An unexcused absence means that one point will be deducted from the student’s cumulative grade in each class at the end of that grading period. Teachers are not required to make special provisions for students who are unexcused. Students absent because of illness on the day(s) preceding and/or immediately following fall or spring break will be required to bring a doctor’s excuse to the Attendance Officer upon their return to school.
ISSMA GOLD & VISUAL DISTINCTION
Congratulations to the Roncalli Band on their outstanding performance at Saturday's ISSMA Festival Marching Band Contest. Not only did they earn a gold rating, but they also received an award for visual distinction. This is the first time the band has ever received this award. Only bands with the highest score in the visual component of the competition receive this distinction. Outstanding job, Royal Band!
|
Roncalli's 17-member Unified Bocce Ball team traveled to Carmel last Saturday to compete in the state tournament. The weather held off, and they had a full day of play. After beating DeKalb and Martinsville, it was a battle between the North and South Royals as Roncalli vied against Hamilton Southeastern. It came down to the very last throw as Roncalli was forced into a tie-breaker. The Roncalli Royals lost a hard-fought match but had a lot of fun for the day!
Congratulations to our Bocce Ball Team members:

BOYS CROSS-COUNTRY FIRST-EVER CIRCLE CITY CONFERENCE CHAMPS
|
For the first time in school history, the Roncalli boys cross country team won the Circle City Conference championship. The Royals captured the title with a one-point win over Guerin Catholic. Senior Sam Vaught placed third, sophomore Will Lewis placed fifth, junior Owen Lewis followed at sixth and sophomore Jim Buchmeier came in seventh. These finishes earned four of the eight All-Conference spots. Sophomore Thomas Mallers finished 27th in the scoring, 1.4 seconds ahead of the next scoring runner, to secure the victory.
Head coach Jeff Buckley shared, "The conference championship completed an unprecedented month of running by our team, winning four meets and defeating all 28 opponents. Vaught, Buchmeier and the Lewis brothers earned all-conference honors to conclude a very strong month of racing. We’re excited to see what the rest of the season brings!"
The Royals will compete in sectionals on Saturday, October 19 at Blue River Cross Country course in Shelbyville. The meet will begin at 11:15 AM.

EM INTERNS WORKING AT RONCALLI
After many years of issues with the air conditioning system that cools the auditorium, we were able to install a brand new cooling system this week, ensuring the Fine Arts Center has a perfectly temperature-controlled space for many years to come. Also, one of the neatest parts of the entire project is that EM Company is doing the removal and installation alongside the EM interns, who are actual Roncalli students!
RONCALLI NEEDS BUS DRIVERS

Each week, a team of school officials conducts a confidential meeting to discuss the needs of our students. The team seeks to identify students experiencing physical, social, emotional or spiritual difficulties and to remove any barriers that interfere with student learning. The team offers these students affirmation, support, direction, counseling and community referrals. In addition, the team leads programs designed to improve the well-being of our community by providing resources, offering activities and presenting education on healthy living.
If you have any questions about STAND or have any concerns of the mental health of any student, please email assistant principal Michael Wantz at mwantz@roncalli.org.

SOCIAL WORKER PARENT/GUARDIAN LETTER
|
Roncalli High School is pleased to have two school social workers again for the school year. The social workers are available to all students in need of support in removing barriers to academic success. The school social worker’s role is to assist the school in meeting the social, emotional and spiritual needs of its students, parents/guardians and teachers. This is done by individual sessions with students, meetings with parents or families, small groups, coordinating with other service providers, providing resources to families or students and facilitating a teamwork approach with teachers and staff at school.
If you feel your child would benefit from meeting with a social worker, for any reason, please call or email us at any time. If your student will need ongoing services, please fill out the consent form below and return it to us.
