Cameras in shared areas of DDS homes: What do you think?
Massachusetts Advocates Standing Strong (MASS) is collaborating with the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services (DDS) to host two listening sessions for self-advocates and people with disabilities supported by DDS.
We especially encourage people who live in a DDS or provider group home, or may live in one in the future, to participate in these sessions.
People have different views about how cameras may affect safety, privacy, dignity, choice, and rights. DDS wants to hear your ideas, questions, and concerns.
Both sessions take place on Zoom. No registration is required. They cover the same topic, so please choose one unless you are supporting someone.
Please share these opportunities and help support people who would like to participate. For questions or participation support, contact DDS’s Office of Human Rights at officeofhumanrights@mass.gov.
Explore different perspectives
The Massachusetts Developmental Disabilities Council (MDDC) has shared “Community Conversation: A Guide to Video Surveillance in Group Homes.”
The guide presents potential benefits and concerns without taking a position for or against cameras. Review it before or after a listening session to consider different perspectives on safety, privacy, choice, and individual rights.
