Gate Precast Company
|
This project is a 138,000 SF multi-story arena. General seating is 4,000 seats in the main arena and 600 seats for the volleyball court. The building includes six classrooms, twelve faculty offices, and a sports training center that serves as a hands-on learning laboratory for exercise physiology students.
Precast concrete insulated panels helped keep costs down while providing both the exterior and interior surfaces. The advantages of precast offered project resiliency, durability, cost efficiency, and quality control at the plant versus something constructed on-site.

Workforce development is a concept experiencing renewed interest today across all industries due to the ongoing struggle to find and retain quality employees. The struggle is no different in the precast industry and as such, PCI has embarked on a crusade to aid producers with workforce development strategies that will fill plants with employees at all levels who desire to establish careers in precast.
As current Chairman of the Board Matt DeVoss noted during his speech at the annual convention in Kansas City, the importance of bringing new talent into the industry is key to the future of precast. In recent months, a new committee has been established to promote workforce development. Locally, PCI Gulf South has been working to foster relationships between area producers and workforce development programs.
Our collective goal, both locally and nationally, is to bring new talent into the industry and continue to advance the use of precast in the building market.

Implementing Embodied Carbon Reduction Requirements Webinar
|
|
Please join us for the upcoming Webinar Series on Implementing Embodied Carbon Reduction Requirements.
Embodied-carbon requirements are being implemented in various ways and at different stages of the project design, from “Buy Clean” programs, to specification language, to owners and above-code programs that establish benchmarks and percentage improvement targets. Navigating these newer requirements can seem overwhelming. This webinar will focus on examples of each different embodied carbon implementation method, pros and cons and the value of each method, and understanding how architects can approach reductions at different project stages.
The featured Presenter is Emily Lorenz, PE who is an independent consultant in the areas of LCA, EPDs, PCRs, green building, and sustainability.

Precast and Carbon Emissions
|
At current rates, global carbon emissions are 36 billion tons annually and rising. With a new focus on reducing carbon emissions to help counteract climate change, the precast industry has begun focusing on improving its processes and educating design professionals on the sustainability that concrete can bring in the long term.
