Greetings in the Risen Christ!

As Thanksgiving Day and the Advent Season approaches, I offer the Lord prayers of gratitude and thankfulness to each of you for your many contributions of time, talent, and treasure. Through these gifts, we continue fulfilling our daily mission - to Encounter Christ and Learn to Live as Disciples.

If you are in town, please come to our Annual “No-Turkey” Spaghetti Thanksgiving Dinner tonight, Wednesday, November 27, which will begin with Mass at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner in the Atrium. All are invited to come and give thanks for all of our blessings while sharing a meal together.

#iGiveCatholic on #GivingTuesday is next Tuesday, December 3, and all proceeds collected this year will benefit two of our Outreach Ministries: Night Shelter Ministry and Thursday Sack Lunch Ministry. Our goal for Giving Tuesday is $16,400 which will cover both programs' costs this fiscal year. Advance Giving is open now. Click here to view our giving page and a big thank you to all those who have already donated.

We are days away from the completion of Phase 1A of our parish redecoration project. To celebrate the reopening of our sanctuary, you are invited to come out on Friday evening, December 13, for a joyful evening of Carols and Scripture for the Advent Season presented by the Archdiocesan Choir and led by Donal Noonan. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m. for those who would like an “up close” view of the redecorated sanctuary, and the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m., followed by a Gaudeamus reception downstairs. All are welcome.

Have a blessed and Happy Thanksgiving!

Peace to you in Christ Risen,

Fr. John

Rector/Pastor

May this #GivingTuesday prompt us to gratitude and generosity, that brings nourishment to the hungry and hope to the hopeless. We pray that #iGiveCatholic may be a miracle of loaves and fishes, where every gift shared lovingly from a grateful heart becomes bread for the multitudes, and the ordinary becomes extraordinary.

Volunteers Needed for Thursday Food Distribution

The Basilica Thursday Morning Food Distribution volunteer group is seeking additional volunteers that can assist with this important ministry. Every Thursday morning for almost 20 years Sacred Heart volunteers have distributed hot coffee and bag lunches to members of our local homeless population, as well as other persons in need of assistance. We are recruiting volunteers to assist with this ministry that can commit to helping out at least one Thursday a month from 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. The Thursday Morning Food Distribution ministry is an important way that Sacred Heart has a positive impact on our downtown community and we hope that you will consider volunteering to support this effort.

If interested in volunteering, or should you have any questions, please contact Deacon Marino at 678.488.5661 or MGonzalez@sacredheartatlanta.org.

Daughters of Isabella Annual Pecan Sale continues this weekend

Just in time for the holidays and sponsored by the St. Margaret Mary Circle #1445 of the Daughters of Isabella, the Pecan Sale supports the initiatives of the Circle, including support for women and youth throughout the year.

Knights of Columbus Monastery Goods Sale

The Knights of Columbus will be selling the popular Monastery Goods from the monks at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers after the 4 PM, 8 AM and 10 AM Masses on this weekend November 30/December 1 and after the morning Masses on December 8. Featured are biscotti, fudge, fruit cake, honey, and coffee. Historic Foundation Bricks to be used in a new welcoming gate and garden wall! $25,000 match!

In recognition of all of those who have come before us, we are designing and developing a portal or gate through which those entering the church campus from the parking lot will pass. The gate in part will include the remaining foundation bricks we have recovered. and will be built at the east entrance to Sacred Heart Way.

Donations matched!

Much of this development will be made possible through the generosity of an anonymous donor; your donation will be matched dollar for dollar up to $25,000. So, $25,000 in donations becomes $50,000 with the gift match.

Donate here to the welcoming entrance and garden wall!

Knights of Columbus

Inspired to get involved with the Knights of Columbus? We are recruiting men to join us in the many good works we perform for the parish and the community at large. Our Council allows like-minded Catholic men to live out their faith through fellowship and action. We should point out that the Knights of Columbus focus on the family. In many instances, wives, children, and other family members are welcome to participate in our events and activities. Children can benefit from working with their parents on charitable projects and can fulfill community service requirements at their schools. For more information, contact Patrick Waldron at waldronp@hotmail.com or cell 571-643-2894.
