To Your Health: WRHS News Update
WRHS LAUNCHES PILOT ART THERAPY GROUP
On Saturday, May 28 Wood River Health Services launched its first two Art Therapy Groups. The one-hour sessions were led by Athena Kobin, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Registered Art Therapist.

The groups, which were limited to six adults per session, empowered participants to tap into their creativity to help relieve symptoms related to anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions.

The goal of Art Therapy is to decrease behavioral health symptoms that interfere with an individual’s daily functioning, increase their self-empowerment, increase their emotion regulation, and improve their overall wellbeing. An evidenced-based, alternative approach to traditional “talk” psychotherapy, Art Therapy has been scientifically proven to improve the quality of life of people at every age level, from infant to senior citizen.

The Art Therapy pilot program are made possible by grant funding from Dime Bank Foundation, the Women’s Club of South County’s Grow Hope Grant Program and Point32Health (formerly Tufts Health Plan).

Current patients who are interested in learning more about our behavioral health services should visit https://woodriverhealthservices.org/services/ or call (401) 539-2461.
Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island has donated $100,000 to Wood River Health Services to support our "Your Home for Health" Capital Campaign.

In the words of Peter Marino, President and CEO (pictured left), "For more than 25 years, Neighborhood and Wood River have remained strong partners in serving Rhode Island's most at-risk communities. Having comprehensive whole health services embedded right in the community - delivered in accessible space that reflects the quality of care Wood River consistently provides - can be life-changing to the individuals and families they serve. This is a mission Neighborhood proudly shares with Wood River."

We are grateful to NHP-RI's commitment to improving the quality of life of the members of our community. Stay tuned to learn more about Wood River Health Services' expansion at our Hope Valley campus!
