MAYOR'S UPDATE
From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin
When Big Bunny comes to Ossining – that means that you can expect to give a hug and get a treat from our special guest. This year, Big Bunny truly outdid herself! The Ossining Fire Department brought Big Bunny for appearances all over Ossining. She was, as always, super excited to see all the children and dogs - and even pose for pictures. I am so thankful to the Ossining Recreation Staff, who puts together these incredible types of events that bring our community together.
For the second consecutive year, a rare convergence of three major religious observances will occur during the month of April with Ramadan, Passover, and Easter.

Each of these holidays is celebrated with various foods and traditions. Down to Earth Markets put together a great write-up I'd like to share with the community. It provides a tasting of information about each holiday and some specific foods traditionally eaten at each feast. It’s also a wonderful reminder to stop by the farmers market and support local shopping.

May those in our community celebrating these holidays find Peace, Joy, and meaningful life exploration.  Click here to read more: https://mailchi.mp/downtoearthmarkets/ossining-farmers-market-preview-13792070?e=98b336b29a
Good news! Parklets are returning to the Village of Ossining. In an effort to help restaurants during Covid and enhance our community’s ability to enjoy distanced outdoor seating, the Village launched a program in 2021 to give eating establishments an option to expand their outdoor dining settings to accommodate the NYS social distancing guidelines. As you can imagine, these were very popular both here and beyond. Another great reason to shop and eat local!
Here is another Village improvement project update: The 5 Corners intersection in the middle of our downtown is getting a facelift. Work will commence this week, beginning with the underground conduit/work, which will last about three weeks. The majority of the surface work will be undertaken once the signal poles are delivered to the site. The full project is scheduled for completion by year-end, and I will be sure to provide updates.
Correction:  The correct name of the scuba organization mentioned in my message last week that will be at the upcoming Green Ossining Earth Day Festival Saturday, April 22, is the Scuba Sports Club.
This week’s Legislative Meeting will take place today,
TUESDAY, April 4, 2023, at 16 Croton at 7:30PM.

Some items of note:
  • We will begin with TWO public hearings on proposed local laws:
  • A local law adding Chapter 96 (Burn, Open) to the Code
  • A local law amending Chapter 216 (Sidewalk Cafes, Outdoor Dining, and Sidewalk Sales)
  • As part of the Manager’s Report, Karen D’Attore will give a brief update on the progress of the DRI projects for Q1. This will be followed by resolutions regarding the pool project, Rt 9 Road Diet, and amendments to the 5 Corners capital project. Last – but not least, we have a resolution to create the Ossining Placemaking Committee!

Please note that Village offices will close early on Good Friday.
