Opening Doors in Santa Monica:
St. Joseph Center Celebrates Youth and Family Move-ins at Berkeley Station Affordable Housing

St. Joseph Center is proud to continue our 50-year promise to Opening Doors and Transforming Lives. This week, we were proud to welcome our next generation of youth and families to their Santa Monica home.

As Santa Monica’s first modular affordable housing development, Berkeley Station is a major step forward in addressing housing insecurity at scale. This four-story community is specifically designed for transitional-aged youth and low-income housing, offering more than just a place to live but a permanent home fully equipped with supportive services. This project was led by the Community Corporation of Santa Monica and the City of Santa Monica.

All units dedicated to youth are part of St. Joseph Center’s Youth Resource Team (YRT) program. This program supports at-risk youth ages 16–24 with housing, mental health, education, and workforce services through coordinated, field-based case management to help stabilize their lives and reach long-term success.

While the building's innovation is impressive, the real meaning of this project lies in the people who will call it home. Eight youth and families moved in recently, including Malik and his young daughter, Naomi. For Malik, who has faced homelessness multiple times, this home is a "blessing" and a critical turning point for his family’s future.

St. Joseph Center's Youth Resource Team (YRT) will be on-site to provide supportive services that turn these units into a community. This project is a clear example of our strategic priorities in action: creating the conditions for dignity, opportunity, and a real pathway home. We want to extend our deepest appreciation to YRT and everyone who contributed to bringing this vision to life.
