California utilities, aggregators and customers to benefit from new DER laws: advocates

The two laws push California regulators and utilities to get more out of the state’s existing grid, in part by expanding DERs’ role.

SB 913 gives the CPUC a June 2028 deadline to lay the groundwork for DER aggregations to qualify as resource adequacy capacity in utility resource plans and state procurements.

EPA proposes major changes to methane rules for oil and gas operators

The proposal is expected to save $45 billion in costs to consumers and businesses, including families and small businesses operating marginal wells, and to unleash an estimated 210 million additional barrels of oil and 1.41 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

“Behind every barrel of oil and every cubic foot of natural gas produced in the U.S. are millions of workers, businesses, and the heartbeat of this nation’s economy. The Biden EPA destructively targeted all this. President Trump promised to end the war on oil and natural gas, and I vowed to do my part, while protecting our environment,” said EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin.

By working together with the federal government, we are unlocking a generational economic opportunity that will attract investment, create good-paying jobs and strengthen our economy,” said Premier Tim Houston, who is also Minister of Energy.

U.S. Natural Gas Production Hits New Records as Demand Surges

U.S. natural gas production is on track to close a second consecutive year with record-high natural gas output as producers respond to demand signs both at home and overseas.

Soaring demand for powering data centers in the United States and rising liquefied natural gas exports amid expanding liquefaction capacity, as well as surging global demand for spot LNG cargoes in the absence of Qatar’s gas due to the Iran war, are pushing American natural gas production higher this year.
