Argus Visuals Photography Helps Bring Christmas Magic to North Augusta
As North Augusta steps into the festive spirit of the holiday season, Argus Visuals Photography—veteran-owned/operated and named the 2024 Micro-Business of the Year by the North Augusta Chamber of Commerce—continues its mission to bring joy, creativity, and genuine connection to the community through the art of photographic storytelling. Since opening in 2020, Argus Visuals has been dedicated to partnering with individuals, couples, families, nonprofits, and local businesses to tell their unique stories with authenticity, warmth, and a touch of fun.
In keeping with its annual tradition, Argus Visuals is once again offering its Thanksgiving and Christmas Photoshoot Special, designed to capture the beauty of the season across some of North Augusta’s most picturesque locations. Each session—priced at $180—includes image optimization on the backend, runs about an hour to an hour and twenty minutes, and features a relaxing, festive guided photo tour aboard the Argus Visuals golf cart. Depending on group size and preferences, clients can visit scenic spots such as Boeckh Park along the Savannah River, Brick Ponds Park, the Greeneway Gazebo, the colonial Living History Park, and even the city’s iconic oversized Christmas ornaments beautifully displayed at Calhoun Park. Calhoun Park is also where the city’s Christmas tree will blaze to life during the annual tree lighting on Tuesday, December 2nd.
Whether preparing Christmas cards, social media posts, or simply creating lasting memories, these sessions offer a joyful, easygoing way to celebrate the season while enjoying North Augusta’s natural charm and festive atmosphere. Appointments are available from morning through evening on weekdays and Saturdays.

Living History Park—A Phoenix Rising from the Ashes
There are many who live in North Augusta, South Carolina who do not know that the jewel that is the Living History Park even exists right here in their own community. Are you one of those? The unfortunate irony is that the park is actually far more widely known outside our local area—drawing visitors from nearly every state in the union as well as from eleven other countries.
Nestled at 299 W. Spring Grove Avenue, the Living History Park has long stood as one of the region’s most cherished cultural landmarks—a living window into the colonial world of the late 18th century. Founded in the early 1990s by a devoted circle of historically minded friends, led by the beloved Lynn Thompson, the park has offered immersive experiences in colonial life for more than three decades: blacksmithing at the forge, pottery demonstrations, militia drills, period woodworking, authentic colonial cooking in beehive ovens at the Springhouse Tavern, lessons in the Thompson Academy schoolhouse, and other daily rhythms of work, worship, and community in the 1700s.
A remarkable aspect of the park is that it has no paid staff. Everything that happens—every demonstration, every repaired structure, every carefully maintained path—is performed by volunteers. The park survives entirely on donations and the modest funds raised through its community events, making its continued existence a living testament to dedication, passion, and local pride.
That devotion was put to the test in September 2024, when Hurricane Helene caused some of the worst damage the park has ever seen. Historic-style buildings and workspaces took on water, fences and walkways washed out, and several roofs were compromised. The park’s large red barn, home to weddings, receptions, dances, and high teas, suffered devastating injury when multiple trees crashed through its roof. The popular pavilion known as Roger’s Ordinary was completely demolished.
Yet the same spirit that built the park rose again. Volunteers, reenactors, and supporters quickly mobilized, working closely with the City of North Augusta, which has since selected a contractor to fully restore the damaged structures. That work is scheduled for completion by March 2026, in time for the park’s major three-day interpretive event, “Under the Crown,” which allows visitors to experience what it was like to live in one of the pre-Revolutionary War colonies under British rule.
This restoration has added urgency because 2026 marks the 250th anniversary—the sestercentennial—of the United States of America. As the nation reflects on its birth and early history, the Living History Park must be fully restored so it can properly serve as a living classroom and celebration site during this milestone year.
The season of recovery is especially poignant following the loss of the park’s founder, director, and OTPA president, Lynn Thompson, who passed away on July 4, 2025. Her leadership and vision shaped the park from its beginnings, and her legacy continues to guide its future.

Your perfect opportunity to experience this historical treasure is coming soon: the free family event “Christmas in the Backcountry” on Saturday, November 29th, from 10AM–2PM, where visitors can step into the sights, sounds, and traditions of an 18th-century Carolina Christmas. Even though the park will not be completely restored at this point, it will still provide all who come a wonderful gaze into what will be made complete in 2026.
This extraordinary park—famous worldwide—is right here in your hometown. Come discover it, enjoy it, and help sustain it.

North Augusta Beautification Foundation—Wine Walk Leaves Community Refreshed and Reconnected
The inaugural North Augusta Wine Walk, held on November 8th, welcomed more than 700 attendees to Sharon Jones Amphitheater—a remarkable turnout that reflected the community’s deep desire to breathe, slow down, and reconnect after several challenging years. In the wake of COVID and the emotional weight carried after Hurricane Helene in late 2024, residents were eager for an evening that felt restorative, joyful, and genuinely communal. And that is exactly what they found.
Hosted by the North Augusta Beautification Foundation, the Wine Walk delivered a night filled with relaxed energy and a “stellar chill factor” that many attendees commented on throughout the event. Organizers credit this atmosphere to the careful preparation beforehand and, most importantly, to the exhibitors who greeted guests warmly, poured wine samples, and shared about the local brick-and-mortar businesses they passionately represent.
Adding to the ambiance were two outstanding musical acts—L4 Jazz Ensemble and Kingsize—who performed continuously from 6 PM to 10 PM, creating a soundtrack that perfectly framed the evening.
The Beautification Foundation is already looking ahead with excitement to next year’s event on November 7, 2026. Representatives emphasized that while fundraising is a component, the heart of the Wine Walk is to “grow greater community and connection” in South Carolina’s Riverfront City. With sponsors already stepping forward for next year, the 2026 Wine Walk promises to be bigger, better, and—believe it or not—every bit as chill as this one.
