Around the Town:
Becky Partin

We all love Cornelius for its small-town feel, but how small is it, really? Of the 15 square miles that make up our Town, only 600-700 acres are vacant land and a lot of that is in the hands of the National Register of Historic Places. So, who makes the tough calls on how we grow, and who helps find solutions when none are apparent?

Meet Becky. She's the Planning & Zoning Department's Senior Planner. She's one of the folks you call when you have a question about what can be developed and where.

Becky lives in Huntersville these days but is a native Louisianan (#ForeverLSU). In her free time, you may find her reading, mountain-climbing, or playing with her four adorable fur-babies.

About Becky
Becky moved to Atlanta after graduating from LSU to begin a career in finance. There, she met her husband Keith and the two have been married 28 years. Coogan and Shea - the canine cuties pictured to the right - joined their family just before Thanksgiving this past year. They have two feline siblings, BB and Zumi. Their pups' names honor a long-running baseball theme started by the pair with their first rescues.
Aside from being amazing pet-parents, Becky and Keith are also big fans of the great outdoors. Their favorite spots? Relaxing at the beach or taking a breather at the top of a mountain. So far, Becky has ascended both Mt. Mitchell and Mt. Washington.

She's been with the Town for 15 years, as both a Communications Specialist and now as Senior Planner. Fun fact: she found out about the job from an ad in the newspaper! Her work with the Town has been so greatly valued, and so has her work back home. In 2005, she and Keith returned to Louisiana to volunteer in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. They spent six weeks helping those affected and we could not be more proud to have such generosity and kindness as a part of our team.
Land Use Plan
Structure and vison are the greatest priorities in planning for the Town's future. The Land Use Plan is one of the ways we provide that structure, but it hasn't changed since 2014. We first mentioned the Land Use Plan in the January 10 newsletter, and all of our newsletters are archived if you'd like to go back and take a look.
The Planning Board and Planning & Zoning Department are working on updating the Land Use Plan. They recently held a meeting with the Town Board to discuss priorities and strategies for updating the plan. Missed it? You can watch the replay here.

While the update is in the works, rest assured that there is still plenty going on. Becky said that right now, there are more projects in motion at once than she has seen since 2008. These include commercial projects and will all take time as we continue to make our way out of the pandemic. Want to stay up to date on the latest developments? Vaccine Update and Waitlist
Group 4 is now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. This includes people with high-risk medical conditions, people experiencing homelessness, and incarcerated people who have not been vaccinated.
Other essential workers and people in close group living settings will be eligible April 7.

You may schedule your vaccination appointment online through StarMed.Care or by calling MCPH COVID-19 Hotline at 980-314-9400 (Option 3 for English/Opción 8 para Español). 
 
If you are unable to schedule an appointment, you may sign up for the Mecklenburg County vaccination waitlist. Open appointments will be filled from the waitlist.
 
Please note you may be able to make an appointment sooner through your medical provider, Walgreens, Atrium Health, or Novant Health. In all cases, the vaccine is 100% free, and all three vaccines currently approved are safe and effective.

Individuals who are homebound and unable to travel to receive a vaccination can complete this form to request to receive the vaccine at home.
Community Ambassadors Needed!
Atrium Health is looking for energetic and passionate people to become Community Vaccine Ambassadors. Ambassador volunteers will engage virtually with their community networks of family, friends, coworkers, and organizations.

They will inform their networks about the safety of the vaccine and encourage community members to #taketheirshot!
