District 2 Park in Honor of Commissioner Gail Hambrick
The Clayton County Board of Commissioners surprised one of its own during the regular business meeting on Tues., Sept. 15, 2026, by officially naming the new District 2 Pocket Park in honor of Commissioner Gail Hambrick. She is in her fourth term as the District 2 Commissioner.
The Gail B. Hambrick Park, 1740 Flat Shoals Road, Atlanta, Ga., 30349, is under construction. Features include a dog park, playground, pavilion, open multipurpose area, and space for two mobile medical units. It is set to open later this year.
“Thank you all so very much,” stated District 2 Commissioner Gail Hambrick.
She has served as a member of the Board of Commissioners since January 2009.
As stated in Resolution 2026-211, the construction and completion of the District 2 Pocket Park was due in substantial part to Commissioner Hambrick’s longstanding efforts to provide recreational and safe spaces for the county’s children and seniors and to educate them of the potential benefits of quality and community space.
The Board of Commissioners deems it in the best interest of Clayton County, and the county will best be served by naming the District 2 Park to the Gail B. Hambrick Park.
There are four new pocket parks in the works, one in each district, which are currently under construction. Each pocket park will provide residents space for exercise, outdoor activity, and community engagement. In addition, the pocket parks give Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services Mobile Clinics a designated location to offer rotating medical screenings and health information.
The pocket parks are funded by a grant from the State of Georgia and Clayton County’s Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
For more information on SPLOST Progress for Pennies, or to view current SPLOST projects, visit www.claytonsplost.com.
Since 2004, the Clayton County Board of Commissioners has used the one-cent SPLOST for countywide improvements. The Clayton County SPLOST helps move the county forward by funding capital improvements within infrastructure, public safety, buildings, technology, and overall quality of life.

The Law of Sacrifice
“If you desire to become the best leader you can be, then you need to be willing to make sacrifices in order to lead well. If that is your desire, then here are some things you need to know” (John C. Maxwell, The Maxwell Daily Reader). Maxwell states:
- There is No Success Without Sacrifice: Leaders must give up to go up. Talk to leaders, and you will find that they have made repeated sacrifices. Effective leaders sacrifice much that is good to dedicate themselves to what is best.
- Leaders are Often Asked to Give Up More Than Others: The heart of leadership is putting others ahead of yourself. It’s doing what is best for the team.
- You Must Keep Giving Up to Stay Up: If leaders have to give up to go up, then they have to give up even more to stay up. What gets a team to the top isn’t what keeps it there. The only way to stay up is to give up even more.
- The Higher the Level of Leadership, the Greater the Sacrifice: The higher you go up, the more it’s going to cost you. And it doesn’t matter what kind of leadership career you pick. You will have to make sacrifices. You will have to give up to go up.
Are you willing to give up to go up?
Have an amazing week.
