Lori's Update
I can't believe we are already into the 2nd quarter of the year!! This month we have had so much going on- which I absolutely love. We are still working on managing David's afib.. luckily since they changed his meds, no more episodes. I would like to keep it that way! :)
I want to take a moment to talk about Cherokee County Fire & EMS - they are currently hosting their first Citizens Fire Academy. Let me tell you Ah-mazing!!! It is a weekly 3-hour class for 11 weeks. This is the best Citizens Academy we have had the opportunity to take. It is very hands on and these fire fighters LOVE engaging with the citizens. They not only want us to learn about CCF&E but to experience as much as we can. We have been CPR and Stop the Bleed Certified, toured a Fire Station, Training Center, all Trucks, Ladders, Engines, Ambulance, Haz-Mat, and Diving. We have gone up in bucket trucks, ridden in an Engine Truck, learned how to intubate patients, put on ballistic gear (it's heavy), suit completely up in fire gear, masks, breathing apparatus, and go into the burn house to learn up close how fires work and how to put it out, learn and see how the dive team operates and suit up, learn how Haz-Mat works slow to figure out what they are dealing with before they rush in, learning about our large animal rescue...and me conquering a HUGE fear - heights. I rappelled off a 4 story building - TWICE!! Folks, the money it takes to operate our amazing CCF&E is a lot. Do you know that fire fighters are just now learning that their job causes cancer so they are purchasing gear and implementing policies to help prevent this as much as possible. If you get the opportunity to sign up for their Citizens Fire Academy in the future, I would highly recommend it.
