Blacksmith Community,

Following the tragic events in Georgia this morning of another school shooting, we want to make sure you are aware of the enhancements that have taken place on our Westlake Academy campus to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

Over the last two summers, Westlake Academy has hosted Emergency Response training with Keller PD, Westlake Fire and EMS, and other local first responders. These trainings help familiarize first responders with our campus to make their response as quick and efficient as possible during in an emergency. You can learn more about their training in this short video.

Our connection with Keller Police has also grown over recent years with the full-time addition of our exceptional School Resource Officer, Mr. Parker, who offices out of our Keller Police substation in the Multipurpose Hall.

A new traffic pattern was created at the start of this school year to allow emergency vehicles an easier path on and off campus. In fact, it's already paid dividends recently when a contractor needed EMS on campus. The time it took to get to the Fieldhouse was GREATLY reduced, and we appreciate everyone's cooperation and efforts to make the new traffic pattern an efficient one.

Finally, at the Board of Trustees Meeting scheduled for September 16, the board will vote to install panic buttons in every classroom to make sure that every student and teacher on campus is one push of a button away from getting the assistance they may need in a true emergency situation.

"We are so thankful for the tireless work of our Law Enforcement and Emergency Response partners, and to have a Board of Trustees that prioritizes Campus Safety.", said Head of School, Dr. Kelly Ritchie.

Our hearts are with the families and community impacted by this morning's horrific acts in Georgia. No school should ever have to deal with such events.

We thank you for entrusting us with your child's safety and will continue to do everything in our power to ensure that all students, staff, and parents are as safe as possible while on our campus.

Thank you,

Westlake Academy Administration
