Inclusion, Belonging and Performance

The Wellness Works Canada theme for February is inclusion. EDI, DEI, DEIB, EDIB, JEDI, READI are just a few of the terms organizations are using to create an inclusive, equitable and diverse workplace where everyone feels they belong and is free of discrimination. A healthy, high-performing work culture must be inclusive. Many would argue that inclusion is at the bottom of the hierarchy of social needs for employees. It is about removing barriers to inclusion based on abilities, needs, preferences, religion, gender, neurodivergence, abilities, and more. Read on for access to tips, resources, and events to support an inclusive workplace.

Three Tips to Support Inclusion at Work
- Use an EDI lens (or whatever language your team or culture is most comfortable with) in EVERYTHING you do. An appendage or branch won't create the real culture shift you are looking for.
- Inclusion starts with psychological safety - offer all people leaders training on how to support well-being and psychological safety to prevent harm and create an environment where people can be human.
- Take a systems approach when supporting psychological safety and inclusion. Look at your policies, benefits, training, hiring practices, employee assessments, performance development (for accountability) and most importantly - the daily practices that support health and performance.
