TOM PRIDDY SAYS GOODBYE
44 STUDENTS MAKE DEAN'S LIST
Congratulations to the 44 BAE students who made the Dean's List. That number includes eight first-year students with BAE listed as their current major. To make a Dean’s List in one of the UK colleges, a student must earn a grade point average of 3.6 or higher and must have earned 12 credits or more in that semester, excluding credits earned in pass-fail classes. Some UK colleges require a 3.5 GPA to make the Dean’s List.
NEWS, AWARDS & RECOGNITIONS
Mike Sama started a joint appointment in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering on January 1.

Wayne Sanderson was one of six faculty at UK who received a 2021 Great Teacher Award. Thanks to careful planning by Carmen Agouridis and friends, Wayne was completely surprised by the news at a Zoom meeting. The six outstanding educators will be recognized later this year.

UK's Power and Energy Institute of Kentucky (PEIK) has been awarded the Governor's Community Environmental Luminary Award, given in recognition for achievements in community-based environmental education and outreach.

Akinbode Adedeji and Tiffany Messer received recognition for their work as associate editors of the Inside ASABE newsletter.

SCAHIP MENTAL HEALTH TRAINING
During the second week of December 2020, the Southeast Center for Agricultural Health and Injury Prevention (SCAHIP) led four online training sessions focused on Agricultural Community QPR for Farmers and Farm Families. QPR training teaches lay people and professionals to recognize and respond to mental health crises using the approach of Question, Persuade and Refer. Hosted by Agrisafe, a non-profit national membership organization which seeks to reduce health disparities found among the agricultural community, Carolyn Oldham and partners from University of Louisville, Murray State University and Western Kentucky University trained a total of sixty-seven individuals across the country.

Over the last decade, farmers and farm families have experienced increasing pressures resulting in high levels of stress, mental health issues and suicide. Read SCAHIP research here. This effort, led by Dr. Joan Mazur is funded by a USDA-Agrisafe grant. It is one of two, partnered statewide efforts SCAHIP is leading to address agricultural community mental health. SCAHIP will lead an additional four FREE training sessions with Agrisafe the third week of January 2021.
