Dear Nick,

Why Your Support is so Important

Even though the pandemic is now behind us, we are experiencing a greater than normal increase in the number of calls for help to our national helpline. They range from health-related issues, prenatal care, counseling, to asking for shelter, and newborn necessities to mention just a few of the cries for help that we receive on any day. This year, alone, we welcomed 13 infants to our Safe Haven for Newborns family; they are: Little Frankie, Kirk, Mia, Jimmy, Ignatius, Ginnie, Roxy, Lisa, West, Sasha, Clay, Rocky, and Aiden. In total, 368 newborns have been rescued — 360 in Florida, seven in other states, and one in the country of Honduras.

All the services they are referred to and receive are at no cost to them. The services are paid for from the monies collected at our fundraising events throughout the year and donations from generous supporters. We also provide referral services for victims of abuse or those contemplating suicide, connect them with Medicaid for assistance, provide information on adoption, and refer them for help with postpartum depression or anxiety.

Can we count on your generosity this year for Give Miami Day and help us end infant abandonment? This year, early giving will start on Monday, November 14. Give Miami Day will begin on Thursday, November 17, for 24-hours of giving.

To make a donation to A Safe Haven for Newborns, just click the link and it will take you to our Give Miami Day page. Your donation needs to be made through the Give Miami Day website for it to be part of the largest philanthropic event in the nation.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Addressing Postpartum Depression

A call came in to the helpline from a woman who had given birth five months earlier and said she was overwhelmed and depressed. She was having dark thoughts about her infant and herself. We connected her with a counselor and they assisted the young mom by temporarily placing her infant with a foster family, that she approved. She got the help she needed and was reunited with her infant — saving her baby’s life and hers. Two lives were saved.

Combating Homelessness

There has been a sharp increase in homelessness. Expectant mothers are reaching out to us because they do not have a safe place to stay. Your donations help us secure a safe place in a shelter or maternity home for them. We had a young mother reach out to us who had given birth and did not have a home to take her new baby to. A Safe Haven for Newborns was able to connect her with a safe place for her and her baby.

Your help is greatly needed.

Please consider supporting our mission with your monetary donation.
