Rockwell Kent's

Greenland Landscape, Greenland Girl

and Salamina

While Rockwell Kent was preparing to leave on his second trip to Greenland (1931) he and his collaborator at Lakeside Press, William Kittredge (the printers of the Kent illustrated Moby Dick), prepared a trial preface, tentatively titled "A Greenland Letter," in anticipation of Kent's book, (which would eventually become titled) Salamina (1935).

Using Kent's original zinc plates Lakeside Press produced offset images, of the same sizes as the proofs for both Greenland Landscape and Greenland Girl, – 3 7/16 by 6 1/16 and 3 1/8 by 2 5/16 inches respectively – in a large format, single fold sheet – 12 1/4 by 9 1/2 inches. A second, smaller format preface – 7 7/8 by 6 18 inches – was also produced. Both trial prefaces are offered here.

Additional details regarding these printings are detailed in Dan Burne Jones's, The Prints of Rockwell Kent: A Catalogue Raisonné (numbers 67 and 68), reproduced below.
