Week Without Driving
September 29 – October 5

Week Without Driving is here to encourage us to think about building accessible places for everyone.

Could you make it where you need to go every day without driving? Why or why not?

Whether you’re a regular driver, walker, biker, bus rider, or carpooler, Week Without Driving helps everyone build awareness and action around how our cultures and built environments leave behind folks who don’t or can’t drive a car.

October is Pedestrian Safety Month

October is Pedestrian Safety Month. Everyone is a pedestrian, whether in a parking lot, crosswalk, or on a road. Drivers and pedestrians have a shared responsibility to follow the rules of the road and act safely and responsibly. As Fall begins and daylight hours shorten, safety is even more important.

In the US, more than 7,500 pedestrians were killed in crashes in 2022 — the highest number of deaths in 41 years. Drive responsibly to protect the pedestrians sharing our roads.

Remember: Pedestrians have the right-of-way at ALL intersections. All drivers must do their part to keep those walking, rolling or biking safe. When driving around neighborhoods, schools and parks, drive with caution and look out for people walking, rolling or biking.

King County Metro has extended their bus service to pick up passengers on the northern end of the footbridge.

This past weekend, Pierce County Parks celebrated the kickoff of the Parkland Community Trail project. The Ride Together Pierce team was there sharing transportation information, bike decorating items, and 50 free bike helmets!

Engagement Opportunities

Regional Transportation Planning Meetings

In 2026, Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC) will adopt an updated Regional Transportation Plan, which acts as a blueprint for the central Puget Sound’s future transportation network.

The goal of the plan is to improve mobility throughout the region and ensure that all people equitably benefit from the region’s transportation system.

PSRC is looking to connect with residents about transportation priorities at an upcoming event near you:

  1. Thursday, October 2, 5-7:30 p.m. at Pioneer Park Pavillion in Puyallup,
  2. Thursday, October 16, 5-7:30 p.m. at the Point Defiance Pagoda in Tacoma.

How Do You Ride?

Do you like trains as much as we do? The Sound Transit (ST) Sounder commuter train has great views, is from car-traffic, and is a quiet and calming way to travel. The Sounder train runs during weekdays during commute hours and also on many weekend days typically around sporting events or concerts (see above).
