Online enrollment for 2024-2025 now open, including Pre-Kindergarten lottery

Online enrollment is now open for the 2024-2025 school year, and families can complete an easy 1-2-3 process for returning students to quickly register their children.

Enrollment is now open for all children – pre-kindergarten and up – whether they are currently enrolled, returning to the district after leaving or brand new to Northwest ISD. For families of currently enrolled students returning next year, the process will take just a few minutes with the following quick, three-step process outlined on this page.

Enrolling your child as early as possible is one way you can help your campus and the district prepare for next school year. Please visit www.nisdtx.org/enroll to learn more!

Pre-Kindergarten

Northwest ISD offers free Pre-K to students who meet state requirements, and the district also offers tuition-based Pre-K to students who live within district boundaries but do not meet requirements for the state-funded program. Students must be 4 years old by September 1 in either program.

State-funded Pre-K is offered at no cost for those that meet one or more of the eligibility criteria (language, income, military, etc.).

Tuition-based Pre-K spots are limited at each campus, therefore placement is initially determined through a lottery system. Lottery applications are currently being accepted, but will close on Friday, April 26, at 5 p.m.

NISD announces Teachers of the Year, honor staff at Inspire Celebration

Northwest ISD recently announced its Teachers of the Year and honored the top educators and staff across the district at its annual Inspire Celebration, showcasing the tremendous teaching talent and staff support throughout the district.

All 34 Northwest ISD schools named their Exemplar Educators of the Year, honoring the district’s top teachers by campus for the 2023-2024 academic year. Northwest ISD’s Exemplar Educators were selected following a rigorous process on their campus that evaluated their leadership, motivation and effectiveness in the classroom.

From among those 34 Exemplar Educators, two teachers were chosen as the NISD Teachers of the Year. Monique Lawson, a second-grade teacher at Schluter Elementary School, was named the Elementary Teacher of the Year. Leann Shelley, an English teacher at Medlin Middle School, was named the Secondary Teacher of the Year.

The Inspire Celebration also acknowledged the district’s Employees of the Year, retirees and some of Northwest ISD’s longest-serving staff members celebrating their major work anniversary milestones. Photographs of the ceremony can be found on the district's Flickr page.

Transfer application window open through May 15

Families interested in requesting a campus transfer for their students for the 2024-2025 school year can do so until 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, through an online transfer form. All transfer requests are considered on a case-by-case basis, as each student’s request is unique.

Northwest ISD allows families to request transfers to another campus for the next school year during a window that opens annually on April 1. Transfers requests are subject to the capacity of a campus, as several schools are closed to transfers because they are near or over their designed student enrollment.
