A SPOTLIGHT ON AREA MOUNTAIN BIKING

In July, the McCall Area Chamber worked with photographer Grant Gunderson to capture some brand new photography of the mountain biking trails in the McCall area. He brought athletes

Darren Berrecloth along for the ride and together, helped us tell the story of the outstanding trail system we have in our own backyard.
We will be using the photography for future articles and promotion and the photographer is sharing the images with his large network of outdoor recreation publications. In just a few short weeks, these images have already been picked up by:

TESTIMONIALS
I routinely reach into my leadership academy toolkit when working on regional projects. The network of professionals across the economic spectrum of the West Central Mountains that you meet and learn from is incredible. This has proven very valuable when building coalitions, gaining support for projects and making sure the right players are engaged and at the table.
-Andrew Mentzer
"One of my goals of during my 1
st
year of the Academy was learning to work with and communicate effectively with people I was diametrically opposed too, both politically and on social policies. I did not like the word or the thought of compromise, because of my belief that I was going to have to give up something that was a core value to me. Under the tutelage of the “GREAT” Gary Thompson, our field trip interaction with different groups and the Academy Class of 2015-2016, I focused on “Collaboration” instead Compromise. This allowed me to work with people on a common goal, which fostered a relationship that lead to more productive conversations on areas that we might have disagreements. I’m finding productive conversations can lead to areas of compromise now, rather than just shutting down, just at the thought of compromise, just as long as I’m not giving up a core value. Nobody should be expected to compromise on a core value."
-Jay Masterson
"The experience really got me excited to become more apart of the groups and leadership that guide our City/town in business and personal experience."
-Melanie Holmes
"The Leadership Academy has help me grow within myself to better assist the community as a whole. It has helped me understand the programs and the issues that impacts Valley County in order to assist where needed. I strongly recommend this Leadership Course to everyone who has an interest in helping to strengthen our community."
-Sharon Bixler
"I was pleasantly surprised by my classmates' abilities to successfully build regional connections that in turn helped further their professional goals.
Specific examples that stand out to me are my own promotion at the City of McCall, Patty Wold's position at the Southern Valley Rec District, Melanie Holmes as a City Council representative, Lindsey Harris at the McCall Area Chamber, and Andrew Mentzer at the WCMEDC. I cannot help but feel that the Leadership Program helped inspire those successes."

A message from City Manager Anette Spickard
|
Thanks to the voter-approved Street Local option tax and grants from the State of Idaho, August looks to be another very busy month for the City as we continue to repair and replace old, failing infrastructure.
As substantial progress on the Downtown project at 2
nd
, Lenora, and Park Streets continues, you may also notice our underground utility contractor installing fiber optic conduit and cables in areas across the east side of town. This is an exciting first step of many, kicking off
Rapid
, a fiber optic project aiming to bring improved internet service to McCall.
With all of this construction happening, I greatly appreciate the collective patience and perseverance of our area residents, businesses and guests while we take care of these needed investments during our very short construction season window. If you are interested in more detail about any of our infrastructure projects, please visit our website mccall.id.us or give me a call 208-634-7142.
Late Summer is a good time of year to think about wildfire preparedness. McCall is a Firewise community which means you have access to grants to help you assess the fire resilience of your property and take steps to make it safer from wildfires. I encourage you to check out the program and speak with the McCall Fire District about receiving an assessment. It may also help lower your fire insurance rates depending on your property’s condition.
My drop in office hours are every Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm at City Hall or please email me at
aspickard@mccall.id.us
