Dear Laker Community,
As we move into September, our IB Learner Profile focus for the month is Reflective.
Being reflective asks us to thoughtfully consider the world around us, to learn from our experiences and from history, and to evaluate the decisions we make in the moment. As educators and parents, it also challenges us to continually ask whether we are making the right decisions with and for the young people and families in our care.
With that in mind, it feels particularly appropriate to reflect on what has been an incredible start to the year in High School.
Our students have been phenomenal. They have embraced every facet of High School life and demonstrated what it means to be a Laker—in our classrooms, on our fields and courts, through the arts, within clubs and activities, and in the way they have engaged with one another and our wider community.
We are a large and wonderfully diverse community, and our students are a fundamental part of the biggest High School division we have ever had. We also recognize that the strength of our school is built through partnership. We greatly appreciate the relationships we have with our families and the conversations, ideas and feedback that help us continually reflect, evolve and strive to be the very best school we can be.
One exciting development this year has been the introduction of IB Geography to our Diploma Program.
It has been fantastic to see the enthusiasm from students for this new course. Geography is an increasingly relevant and topical subject, connecting students with some of the defining questions of our time from globalization and sustainability to population, resources, development and our changing world.
Importantly, it also creates another meaningful pathway toward college study and careers connected to issues that will remain central to our students' futures.
As we know, Lakers are inquirers, inclusive and innovative, and it is with this purpose and poise that we move forward into the year, continually looking for unique and meaningful ways to expand the opportunities available to the students in our care.
That ambition extends far beyond High School.
Throughout the year, Windermere Prep will host the Nord Anglia Education, The Americas Performing Arts Festival, STEAM Festival, Junior Games, and Global Games events. These are incredible opportunities for students across Lower, Middle, and High School to learn, compete, collaborate and build friendships with fellow Nord Anglia students from schools across The Americas region, right here on our campus.
These experiences represent something very special about being part of the Windermere Prep and Nord Anglia communities. Our students have opportunities not simply to learn about the wider world, but to connect with it, collaborate within it and play an active role in it.
As we reflect on such a positive opening to the school year, there is an enormous amount to be excited about.
Thank you to our students, faculty, staff and families for the energy, enthusiasm and partnership you have already brought to the school year. We have started strongly, and we look forward to continuing to reflect, innovate and grow together throughout the year.
Go Lakers!
Mr. Steve Murphy
Director of High School
