DPS Middle Schoolers Engage in Tech Innovation at 'Building with Google' Event

Twenty Durham Public School (DPS) students from Carrington Middle School were invited to Google Durham's "Building with Google" event to build their own computers using Raspberry Pi devices, and dive into the exciting world of hardware and software engineering. Learn more here:

The Building With Google initiative is part of the Students@Work℠ program, a North Carolina collaboration between the North Carolina Business Committee for Education (NCBCE) and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). Students@Work℠ aims to bridge classroom learning with real-world career opportunities across the state. Members from Durham’s Black Googlers Network, an employee relations group and Google's Lenoir data center were on hand to support this interactive learning experience. Throughout the event, Googlers mentored students, offering firsthand insights into the exciting world of tech careers.

Durham Arts Council Exhibit Features Work from DPS Art Educators

The DPS Arts Educators Show Reception on March 15 showcased the fantastic work of DPS arts educators at the Durham Arts Council. The event featured captivating art pieces and enchanting musical performances.

The Durham Public Arts Instructor Showcase will be in the Allenton & Semans Galleries now through May 5. This is the third year that the DAC has collaborated with the Durham Public Schools to showcase the creativity of our public-school teachers and create a space for their work to be recognized and enjoyed by the community. Students of the Month | March 2024

Zoe Rollins speaks candidly about the internal conflict she’s experiencing as she explores her life’s options after high school. She feels pulled between loyalty to her family and the expectation to stay home and assist with raising her little sister and her desire to see the world for herself. Click here to learn more about Zoe.

It would bode well for Durham Public Schools to remember the name Andre Roberson for he's set his sights on a career in broadcast journalism and is well on his way. The Middle College High School Senior will be a member of the school’s first class of Super Seniors in grade 13 during the 2024-25 school year. During that time, he plans to complete an associate in arts toward the pursuit of a degree and career in journalism. Click here to learn more about Andre.
