The Lord’s Army Marching To The Deliverance Of Zion

Sacrifice and Obedience: Lessons from Zion’s Camp

By Matthew C. Godfrey

One of the seminal events of Wilford Woodruff’s life was his participation in the Camp of Israel (later known as Zion’s Camp) expedition in 1834. Wilford was recruited to participate in the camp after he had been a member of the Church for only a few weeks. The camp was the first time he got to meet individuals such as Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, and Heber C. Kimball, and it taught him several lessons. Donna works on finding gems within the documents that can be highlighted in our topical index and especially loves reading letters from individuals responding to mission calls they received. She says, “The different responses of the men to their mission call has touched me. Most were really in dire circumstances when they received their call but were still willing and thankful to serve a mission. There were a few who had ...

When we don’t see big changes occur in our lives as a result of these actions, we can feel stuck and feel like we aren’t doing enough. At the same time, we may be overcomplicating things and  forgetting that we have help. Wilford Woodruff said . . .
