CALL TO CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

God of mystery, God of life, we imagine that we are capable judges of power and wisdom and goodness. We trust our own standards; we separate and categorize; we mark the performance of others. We fail to trust your power, hidden in all things. We fail to watch for you, working out your purposes. Gracious God, hidden and manifest, transform our withered imaginations until we yield the judgments we trust to a love we cannot control. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF GRACE

What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us? Sisters and brothers, nothing we have done, nothing we will ever do, is enough to separate us from the love of God made known in Jesus Christ. Please turn to your neighbor and share these words of assurance:

“In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God!”

*GLORIA: GtG 582

Glory to God, Whose Goodness Shines on Me

Glory to God, whose goodness shines on me,

and to the Son, whose grace has pardoned me,

And to the Spirit, whose love has set me free.

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be. Amen.

World without end, without end. Amen.

World without end, without end. Amen.

World without end, without end. Amen.

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be. Amen.

THE PEACE

May mercy, peace, and love be yours in abundance. The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. And also with you.

The people may exchange signs of God’s peace.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (From A Brief Statement of Faith)

We trust in God the Holy Spirit,

everywhere the giver and renewer of life.

The Spirit justifies us by grace through faith,

sets us free to accept ourselves

and to love God and neighbor,

and binds us together with all believers

in the one body of Christ, the Church.

The same Spirit who inspired the prophets and apostles

rules our faith and life in Christ through Scripture,

engages us through the Word proclaimed,

claims us in the waters of baptism,

feeds us with the bread of life and the cup of salvation,

and calls women and men to all ministries of the Church.

SHARING JOYS AND CONCERNS

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

Holy God, we do not know how to pray, but Jesus invites us into the life he shares with you, and so we keep coming—because we want to live. Receive us now in our frailty, our complacency, our desire.

We pray for your church all over the world…

Merciful God, give us wisdom and courage…

We pray for unsettled economies…

We pray for all who stand at the thresholds of life…

We give thanks for new faces to love, ideas to ponder, work to do— and we marvel at the sturdy friendships and persistent memories that sustain us when the way is hard. May each be a reminder of your love and your provision.

Holy One, keep calling us into the world…

By the power of your Spirit, we make our prayer with resurrection hope, in the name of Jesus, who taught us to pray…

LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

*HYMN OF RESPONSE: GtG 39 (refrain only)

Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Great is Thy Faithfulness! Great is Thy Faithfulness!

Morning by morning new mercies I see;

All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;

Great is Thy Faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING/DEDICATION

Holy One, receive these offerings as you receive our lives. Gather our false starts and uncertain efforts, our generosity and our reluctance. Enliven us with your breath and make your purposes known, that our lives might show forth your glory, for we pray in the name of Jesus and by the power of your Spirit. Amen.

*CHARGE/BENEDICTION

Go forth to love and serve the Lord.

And may God, who searches the heart,

Jesus, whose love overcomes all division,

and the Spirit, which helps us in our weakness,

continue to lead you into life that you may serve with abandon and joy. Amen!
