OCTOBER COMMUNION AND MISSION FOCUS WORLD COMMUNION

What is World Communion Sunday?

World Communion Sunday is one of six churchwide Special Sundays designated to support ministries and causes important to the entire United Methodist Church. On this Sunday, United Methodists join Christians around the world in celebrating Holy Communion, remembering that we are one in Christ, no matter our background, language, or culture.

But it’s more than just worship. It’s also a time to support scholarships and leadership training for students from underrepresented communities—helping the Church become more inclusive and better equipped to serve.

What Does My Giving Support?

Special Sundays give us a chance to focus our prayers and support on important ministries all year long—uniting our gifts to multiply our impact. Your generosity supports scholarships, grants, and programs that help prepare the next generation of church leaders. Here's how the funds are used:

  • Scholarships (50%)
  • Half of the funds collected go toward scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students of color in the U.S. who are pursuing ordained ministry. To learn more or apply, email scholars@umcmission.org.
  • Grants (35%)
  • A portion of the funds provide In-Service Training Grants that support diversity, equity, and access training—helping the Church recruit and retain leaders of color across all areas of ministry.
  • Leadership Programs (15%)
  • The remaining funds support leadership development with partner churches in Africa, Asia/Pacific, Latin America, Eastern Europe, and communities of color in the U.S. For more information, contact scholarship@umcmission.org.

You may make your gift in one of these four ways: (1) make a check payable to Covenant UMC, designated for World Communion, and mail it to the church, (2) place your designated cash/check in the offering plate/basket in any worship service, (3) give online through our website by clicking “Give” and select World Communion Fund from the "Fund" list.

Room In the Inn
Winter Clothing Needs

Room In the Inn will be hosting guests beginning Nov 6. Our clothing closet is in need of some items and your help would be appreciated. We need women's gloves, shower sandals, socks, thermal underwear and NEW bras & panties. We need all sizes from Medium to 2XL.

Please bring donations to the church office labeled Room In the Inn (RITI) and they will be added to the closet. Thank you in advance.

The Worship Workshop: Saturday, October 24

Why do we do what we do in worship? Why that color on the altar, a song there and a prayer here, water and bread and a cup? Most of us who make worship happen every Sunday have never been told. On Saturday, October 24, we're going to find out together. Read more on our website.

Our Trunk-or-Treat event will be Sunday, October 25th. Please look for the sign-up board in the Narthex and outside of the Spirit Center to sign up for a parking space. Please arrive by 2pm to park and set up. We need your help handing out candy to the children from our church and the community! Also, please plan on bringing your pet to the costume contest. Prizes will be awarded! Invite your family and friends! All are welcome!

If you are unable to park your car and hand out candy to the children, you may help out by donating candy that we will use to replenish candy bowls running low! Please look for donations bins located behind the main desk in the Smith Covenant Center and in the Narthex outside of the Sanctuary. Thank you!

COLLEGE STUDENT ADDRESSES NEEDED PLEASE AND VOLUNTEERS TO BECOME A PEN PAL FOR OUR STUDENTS IN COLLEGE!

We are updating our College Pen Pal Program! If you have, or know of a church member who is currently a student in college, please reach out to our coordinator Penny Wilson (pennywilson1@hotmail.com) and provide us with their address. She will be working closely with Kat Price to match students with a pal! We want to pair them with an active adult church member pen pal partner. If you are interested in becoming a pen pal with one of our college students please contact Penny. The pen pals pray for each other, and it is suggested you send a card or text occasionally just because, to let them know what is going on at CUMC, for birthdays, holidays, and to invite the student back home to Covenant when they are back in town on breaks. Also, care packages and words of encouragment are appreciated prior to exam weeks etc. We hope you will consider being a part of this fun and exciting ministry! Thank you.
