Greetings!
For the safety of our community and staff, we have returned to curbside service only. Please remember that although the doors to the Library are closed, the Circulation, Information, and Children's desks are all staffed during the hours we are open.
To pick up a curbside order or request one of Sarah's STEM kits, dial the main number (443-5141) and then extension 11. We will bring your books to the Children's Room doors. For reference inquiries or for help requesting materials, contact the Information Desk at extension 12. To reach the Children's Desk, use extension 16. For the History Room, use extension 18.
Most importantly, if you call for a pick-up from the parking lot and no one answers, CALL AGAIN! We are here to help you . . it is just very busy. We appreciate your patience.
Click here for more details on our curbside services.
Thank you so much for working with us to perfect our curbside pick-up procedures this week. The response has been tremendous.
Stay safe and be well.

Business Partner Now You're Cooking
Shares Their Support
This week, we're delighted to share a guest column from our friends at Now You're Cooking...they have been stalwart Business Partners of the library and we are eternally grateful for their support!
In a year that’s been anything but predictable, and we’re feeling cut off from our normal routines, the Patten Free Library is a constant. We’re so impressed with the creativity the staff has shown in the ways they keep us connected. Moving talks on-line, offering curbside service, expanding Wi-Fi offerings, the list goes on and on! The Patten Free Library has been such a source of comfort, particularly this year, and we’re proud to sponsor their ongoing work.
If 2020 has found you baking the stress away, experimenting with new recipes, or you’d just like to feel more comfortable in the kitchen—Then join us every Thursday afternoon for a free virtual cooking demonstration with a rotating cast of our staff and other local chefs on Facebook Live. We post ingredient lists and/or recipes before the event so you can follow along! Join us live or watch the video after the class on our website.
As always, we’re happy to help you pick out the perfect gift for the chef on your list. Be sure to check our Maine-made display, in particular, the Maine Bicentennial Cookbook. A unique gift to celebrate Maine’s 200th birthday.
We looking forward to helping you in-person or via curbside pickup soon! Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season.
-The Staff of Now You're Cooking

SAVE THE DATE! "Starry Night" Holiday Luminary in Library Park. Join us for a
magical evening in Library Park on Saturday, December 19, anytime between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Enchantment awaits! Follow the luminary pathways that lead to the Library’s Wishing Tree. Our front windows will glow with lighted tree branches strung with colorful, paper
wishes. Add your unique holiday wish by dropping it in the collection box that is available during our Curbside Pick-up hours (supplies for wishes will also be available curbside). Mark your calendars - the stars will align to make lasting memories at this community holiday event.
Please keep your family and others safe by always wearing a mask and maintaining an appropriate distance. In the event of bad weather Starry Night will be held Sunday, December 20 from 4:30 - 7:30 pm.
Curbside Pick-Up FAQs. Click here for the full run-down and helpful FAQs on our return to curbside-only services. We also have a quick video tutorial on how to place a hold on-line, either for Patten Free Library resources or for an interlibrary loan.
Looking for Your Next Read? Request a "BookMatch Book Bundle"! One of the challenges of returning to curbside-only is book selection. Many of us are shelf-browsers; it's hard to know what to read without being in the Library. If you need help finding your next read, try out our "BookMatch" service. If you fill out a brief questionnaire on your reading tastes, our crack staff will choose up to five books that we think you might enjoy. We will call or email you when the bundle is ready, and you can pick it up curbside. Click here for the details. For other suggestions on how to find your next read, click here.
New: "Weekly on Wednesday" Zoom Chats.
This is the time of year when “Best of 2020” lists come out everywhere. In this “Weekly on Wednesday” session, we’ll create our own local list. Join us to share your “Best of 2020” recommendations with other Patten patrons by preparing a two-minute (or less) book talk on one or several books from the year 2020 that you just couldn’t put down. Or just come to listen to other people’s recommendations. A great way to start making your holiday shopping/reading list. Contact Roberta for the registration link at rjordan@patten.lib.me.us. If you want to do a book talk, let us know the titles you want to talk about so we don’t get doubles.
Grab and Go Craft Bags for Adults. "Grab and Go" Crafts have been so popular that we're starting an adult version in. The first one is a decoupage candle. The kits will be available starting next Tuesday at noon. You can request one through curbside pickup by calling 443-5141, ext. 11.
Want to browse our new fiction titles virtually? Try this new search tool that our reference librarian Jack Martin made. It's an interactive picture of our new fiction shelf. Click on the spine of any book and you will navigate to the item record in the catalog!

History Room Live: A Journey Along the Peterson Canal
Friday, December 11, 4PM
Join the History Room and Bath Historical Society for a virtual tour of Bath’s historic Peterson Canal—no boots required! Learn about how the Canal was originally dreamed up back in in 1791, the geographical surprises that caused it to be abandoned, and why Bath could be considered a “twice-a-day island.” Brenda Cummings and Tim Richter of Bath Historical Society will lead our virtual walk along the canal, as they have done annually (in person) for many years.

How's Your Week Going?
The How's Your Week Going? COVID-19 Story Archive started in March as a way to hear from our patrons while we were closed. At the time, no one knew that we would be asking the same question, week after week for months on end. But we have loved hearing about your COVID experiences, knowing that some day today's troubles and triumphs will be part of our shared history. We still want to hear from you! Share your story today at howsyourweek.omeka.net.
