Hello Friends!
It's mid-October, and we're facing another busy fall at LHR. Demand for food is up--almost to the height it reached at the worst of the COVID-19 crisis. LHR is serving between 800 and 900 Loudoun families (2100 individuals) each week with an average weekly total of 50,000+ pounds of food. That's a lot of food to collect, purchase, move and distribute.
It's sobering to know that so many of our neighbors are struggling.
On the bright side, our dedicated volunteers support LHR with the equivalent service to seven full time employees. They augment our staff by 30% each and every week. There is no way we could move as much food or serve as many people without them.
On another cheerful note for fall, LHR is being recognized for its work as the Grand Marshal of the Leesburg Kiwanis Halloween Parade this year! We're honored to have a prominent place in the longest running Halloween Parade in the United States. This is the 68th year for the parade, and our first time as Grand Marshal. Please come out and cheer us on. The parade is on October 31 in downtown Leesburg and begins at 6pm.
