MSU Denver High School Summer Program
Outreach
Our team participated in an exciting federally funded MSU Denver summer program for income-eligible and first-generation college bound high school freshman.
The purpose of the program is to provide participants with academic and college preparatory support in order to prepare them for post-secondary rigors, success, and graduation.
We were one of the guest speakers for the Industrial Design Department's sessions that encouraged the students to explore what they can do now and in the future. What are some possibilities?
We provided an introduction to robots to 15 students —e.g., Boston Dynamics and robots in the ocean-- and BEST. The BEST program components discussed were the Engineering Design, promotion of workforce skills, bESTology and Game Themes.
Students were able to drive the 2015 Outreach Pay Dirt robot, one of our Training ‘Bots, and they could view the 2013 East Robot. The students' robot driving skills were far superior to ours.
A few of the students are from these Denver Public Schools that have participated with RM BEST: East, South, North, and Lincoln.
We encouraged all the students to pursue participation by their schools in the BEST robotics program and to consider what they could aspire to do in the future that may involve STEM.
