Dear Residents,

At the Town Board meeting this Tuesday, the Board will be presenting several Orangetown employees with awards for stepping up to assist the Orangetown Police and other emergency services with extricating a worker who became entrapped in an industrial-grade machine. Thanks to their quick response, what was an unfortunate event could have been much worse.

Tomorrow at the Pearl River Farmers Market, Andrew Ace Greenspan—a singer/songwriter/pianist—will be performing. Andrew, who was diagnosed with autism at 8 years old and survived a drug overdose in 2023, now shares his music as a message of hope for those facing disabilities, addiction, and other mental health challenges. So please try to stop by and support Andrew’s efforts and, I promise, you will not be disappointed.

As we see the leaves begin to turn color and fall, it is time to check out the New York State Fall Foliage Report for updates on the best viewing locations in the Hudson Valley.

This is also a friendly reminder that school tax payments are due to the Town Clerk by Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

For those observing, I wish you an easy fast this Yom Kippur.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny

Pedestrian Safety Overview

Just like motorists, pedestrians are expected to follow certain rules of the road. Pedestrians must obey traffic control signals, signs and pavement markings when they are crossing a street.

  • Pedestrians are to use sidewalks whenever they are safely available.
  • When sidewalks are unavailable, pedestrians must walk facing traffic as far to the left as possible.
  • Pedestrians must obey traffic signals and/or traffic officers.
  • At crosswalks where there isn't a traffic control signal or officer, pedestrians have the right-of-way.
  • If there are no crosswalks, signs or signals, the pedestrian must yield the right-of-way to all vehicles.
  • Regardless of the right-of-way, the driver is required by law to take great care to avoid striking a pedestrian.
  • Wear light colored clothing and add reflective material to increase your visibility at night.
  • Pedestrians are not allowed on expressways or interstate highways.
