UPS will raise rates an average 5.9% on Dec. 21, two weeks ahead of FedEx’s matching 5.9% on Jan. 4. Packages hit with Additional Handling will be billed at a 50 lb minimum (up from 40), and a new surcharge for some Ground ZIP codes will be detailed in early November.
For catalogers shipping orders, and for publishers shipping subscription copies or bulk cartons, the increase lands at peak, with diesel at $6.35. USPS isn’t raising prices in January, so compare Ground Advantage before you lock in 2027 shipping budgets.
