Family and Community Resources Inc. is excited to once again welcome our community to the Walk for Survivor Safety & Community Cultural Fair! This year, our Walk is taking place on October 25th from 9:30 am – 2:00 pm at Bridgewater Middle School, and we are thrilled to welcome Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz as our Honorary Chair, and State Representative Dennis Gallagher as our Grand Marshall. Each year, participants tell us that they had a great time walking our course, playing games, shopping with local craft vendors, and eating from some great food trucks. While we love that our Walk is a space to create treasured family memories, at its core, we encourage everyone to come so we can continue to support survivors of domestic violence.

This is the Why Behind the Walk.

Home was not a safe place for Nancy after multiple violent attacks from her abuser. Every unexpected noise filled her with intense anxiety. But leaving home made it worse, because she did not know who was coming and going or what she was walking into when she returned. That was until she connected with her advocate at FCR, who supported her emotionally and provided her with a Ring Camera. Nancy told us that these small supports provided her with control over her environment again, which was what she needed to restore her peace of mind.

Brittany was making progress on her healing journey until her abuser’s unexpected release from prison filled her with dread. FCR’s team stepped right in to provide emotional support and physical protection, coordinating with the police, District Attorney, and other victims’ services to ensure her safety was prioritized. Brittany repeatedly expresses her gratitude for FCR’s responsiveness, consistency, and compassion during this extremely difficult time. She feels less alone and empowered to continue creating a happy, healthy future because of FCR.

FCR received a call in the middle of the night from the Brockton Police Department about Joelle. They were extremely concerned about her and her 8-week-old baby’s safety after her abuser was released on bail. One of FCR’s DV advocates stepped in that night, getting Joelle to safety, providing her with immediate essentials, like diapers, personal care items, and food, and starting the search for a sustainable secure location for them both to live. While there is a long road ahead, Joelle is reassured that she and her daughter will never have to walk alone.

Welcome Our New FCR Teammates!

We are so fortunate to have added several new, wonderful people to the FCR Team over the past couple of months!

Whether they join us as full-time, part-time staff, or interns, we are so lucky to have them and cannot wait to see the positive impact they make in our community!

Jessica Gray

DV/TAP Advocate

Before starting here, I completed my Master’s degree in International Human Rights Law and Transitional Justice in Geneva, Switzerland. While in Geneva, I interned with an NGO at the United Nations, where I focused on advocating for gender equity for Indigenous communities in Latin America. I also grew up in West Africa, where my early exposure to gender inequality, human trafficking, and childhood marriage sparked my passion for gender advocacy and human rights. What drew me to FCR is the victim-centered, trauma-informed, empowerment model that is still sadly lacking from many NGOs all around the world, and I look forward to continuing to learn and grow under the incredible leaders and role models at FCR.

Simone Nunes

Housing Case Manager

I am a mother of three with a strong passion for helping the community. I have many years of experience working in human services with low-income populations, where I have connected clients to vital resources such as housing, food assistance, and educational opportunities. I am deeply committed to giving back, with a focused and compassionate approach.

And as a translator, I hope to help break language barriers by ensuring clear and accurate communication while respecting cultural differences.

John "Jack" Garbitt

IPAEP & COV Case Manager

My legal name is John but I go by Jack. I have been working for FCR part time for approximately 3 years as security for the Hyannis Visitation Center. Now in addition to working security, I will split time as a case manager for the Visitation Center and IPAEP. Before working for FCR, I worked at the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office for 24 years. Working for FCR has been an amazing experience so far and I am truly looking forward to learning the IPAEP program and to meeting a host of interesting people. I really enjoy being able to help people and to interact with all walks of life.

Carleigh King

FBS Visitation Intern

I am a junior at Stonehill College as a Criminology and Psychology double major. I am excited to intern with FCR to learn the appropriate visitation policies and procedures. Through this experience I look forward to gaining a deeper understanding of the visitation process from beginning to end!

Genevieve Chedid

FBS Visitation Monitor

I interned at FCR this past summer, but I am now a part-time employee at FCR. Prior to that I interned at the Bristol county District Attorney's Office in New Bedford with the Victim Witness Advocates. I am currently a senior at Stonehill college and I’m majoring in Criminology and minoring in Political Science and Psychology.

I look forward to gaining firsthand experience that will not only deepen my understanding of the field but also shape the impact I hope to make in future roles!

Hailey Barrett

FBS Visitation Intern

I am a senior at Bridgewater State University studying Psychology and Childhood Studies. I wanted to work at FCR because I am very passionate about foster care but have not yet decided if social work is the right path for me. I am excited to learn more about child development, parents' struggles, and how to help families connect is a healthy, positive way.

Talia DiMaggio

Mental Health Intern

I am a junior at Stonehill College studying Psychology with a Creative Writing minor. I am super passionate about mental health and counseling. Being involved with the mental health services at FCR excites me, because I can continue to learn more about the populations served by FCR and get hands on experience in the field!

Bailey Turner

Domestic Violence Services Intern

I am a senior at Stonehill College, studying Criminology and Sociology, and I am hoping to go to law school after college. I am excited to join FCR because I love working with others and providing a means of support for those who may need it.

Ula Nguyen

Development & Communications Intern

COV Visitation Monitor

I'm a senior at Stonehill College studying Criminology and Data Science. When FCR came to Stonehill’s career fair, they stood out to me as one of a kind in the area for their work with survivors, children, and families. I’m excited to have the opportunity to intern and be part of a team that’s making a real difference.
