I’ve learned my business is supposed to be “nimble and agile” and that includes the EGuide (being on brand etc.). I guess it reflects the editor. Interpret either way you choose.
Just in case you missed the last edition, here is a link to it for you

September 4 was my first day of school!
Not as a student, but as an adjunct faculty member at Boston University, in the School of Hospitality Administration. I am specifically teaching Meetings and Events for the Master of Management in Hospitality MMH. This is the third year of the MMH program.
It is a program where you can complete your Master’s in 12 months, and many people use it to transition careers, and others to move up in their current hospitality career.

20 out of 22 of my students are international students. China, France, Russia, Mexico, Taiwan, India. Kazakhstan, Korea, Kenya and the US, all represented.
If you want to know more about what is going on in the class, I will be posting updates on LinkedIn.
The pictures you see here is on my way to my first day, and my celebration at the end of the good day, tired but happy!

This igloo-themed hotel is set to open at the North Pole — for $100,000 per person
The Washington Post
Ok these look beautiful and I love the idea, and part of the goal behind it. However, two obstacles for me: $100K USD, but maybe even more the minus 20-40 F for temperature. Maybe just sit in the heat and look at the beauty?
The North Pole Igloos are slated to welcome its first guests in 2020 and will operate yearly every April.

Why would we care about this for our meetings and events? In my opinion, it would also raise the social media traffic for the event. Something to think about.

What Colleges and Universities do you know, worldwide, that offer degrees and certificates in our industry? Meetings, events, tourism, hospitality?
Please send me information on your college or one you live near, or even one you know of for other reasons. I am beginning to compile a good list---frequently these are hard to find because they are concentrations in a program that is not obvious. The more information the better—what degrees? Associates, Bachelors, Masters, Doctorates and PhDs (can be different before someone shoots me off a note), Links are helpful, and if you are/were a student there—tell me about it! Thanks!

21 Genuinely Helpful Tips For Anyone Who Travels Alone
BuzzFeed
I am not afraid or reluctant to travel by myself. I can amuse myself for hours no matter where I am (including home). I will go to any restaurant I want, activity and most of you know I have a hard time connecting with people (I know you are laughing…). I know a lot of people feel that way—they eat in their rooms instead of exploring where they are, see nothing but the hotel or the airport. I feel blessed to travel, and I am not going to miss an opportunity! Next time you see me ask about the first time I really went to a restaurant by myself while I was traveling…and the story some other customers made up about m e…

My Two-Day Intensive Class
Did you know you can earn 16 Continuing Education hours to apply or re-certify for your CMP by attending? Yes, it is framed around the CMP Domains, but it will also show you how to be better at what you do---or want to do.
I make a decision 2-3 weeks before the class is held as to whether there is enough registration to hold the class. If you know you are taking it please register before those dates! If I am holding the class and there is still room, I will continue to take registrations. What I hate is when I cancel a class do to registration numbers and then people contact me going “I was going to take it!”.
All Classes are Saturday and Sunday.
In 2020 the registration fee will be increasing from $550 to $600. Some classes have discounts, depending on who is sponsoring.

Testimonial
“I proud to call myself a Certified Meeting Professional after passing the CMP exam, and it was in large part from Joanne’s informative workshop and continuous support while I was studying! Joanne is great at breaking down the exam into what you already know and do in your daily work planning meetings, and simplifies the large study materials into manageable study areas. She was also incredibly supportive when I had odd timing circumstances and helped me accomplish this goal. I would recommend Joanne for anyone looking to take the CMP exam!”

Career and Jobs -

The outdated career advice boomer parents are giving their kids
MarketWatch
I love this realistic advice! No matter what generation you are in, if you are job searching, you need to read it---especially if you have not searched in a long time. Baby Booomers (and GenX) still have some of these mindsets. The world of work has changed in many ways, no matter what age you are.
Many of the historic norms surrounding the job hunt — like interview attire — no longer hold

If you are on this list you probably heard me present on the meetings and events industry (good chance on the CMP exam) but no, you did not ask to be on this list because the list did not exist till now. If you choose to unsubscribe I totally get it. On the other hand if you stick around there might be something interesting, amusing or maybe even both
