Dear Friends and Neighbors,

During the month of October - National Domestic Violence Awareness Month - we have been keenly focused on extending support to those suffering at the hands of their loved ones.

Most recently, my office partnered with Safe Horizon and the Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York to host an empowerment luncheon for survivors of domestic violence.

The luncheon provided information about services and resources designed to uplift victims as they try to reclaim their lives.

Domestic violence is a crime that spares no gender and knows no age, cultural or national boundary.

No one deserves to suffer the trauma of intimate partner violence and my office makes every effort to provide meaningful services to those affected by this crime.

I urge anyone who may be experiencing domestic violence to call our 24-hour helpline: 718-286-4410. The helpline allows the caller to select the option of speaking to a prosecutor, or to a service provider.

It is so important that those who are suffering understand that they are not alone. Too often, domestic violence victims are made to feel isolated and incapable of independence but that does not have to be the reality.

My top priority will always be keeping you and your loved ones safe.

In Friendship,

Melinda Katz

Queens District Attorney

Honoring Paul A. Vallone

It was a special privilege to attend a recent street co-naming in honor of former Council Member Paul A. Vallone. I was lucky enough to call Paul a dear friend during our decades-long careers in public service.

This heartfelt tribute not only honors Paul's commitment to community improvement but also serves as a lasting reminder of the profound impact one dedicated individual can have on the lives of others.

As we remember Paul, we are inspired to continue his mission of service and dedication, ensuring that his spirit lives on in the neighborhoods he worked tirelessly to uplift.

Breast Cancer Walk

My office recognizes the critical importance of breast cancer awareness, especially considering that it is the second most common cancer among women in the United States.

In alignment with our mission to enhance public safety and community well-being, we proudly participated in the annual 5K walk against breast cancer at Flushing Meadows Corona Park on Sunday.

Together, we stand in solidarity with those affected by breast cancer and in support of cancer research.

Senior Safety Summit

My office is committed to ensuring that our elderly population enjoys their golden years in safety and in good health.

Along with our community partners, faith leaders and local elected officials, my office is hosting a Senior Safety Summit on crime prevention on Tuesday, October 29.
