FAST Meeting
October 18th 12:30
We have one more FAST "house meeting" scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 18, at 12:30 p.m. in Room 1A. Thank you to all who have already participated in one of the meetings at PCC, sharing your stories and community concerns. FAST (Faith and Action for Strength Together), the Pinellas County-based Interfaith Justice Ministry network of about 50 congregations of different faith traditions, compiles these stories shared at house meetings throughout the county each year.
This year, FAST leaders have identified five categories that will be brought to a vote at the Annual Assembly on Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in St. Petersburg. All network members should attend to hear issue updates, testimonies and choose our community problems. We will choose two of the following categories as the problem areas that FAST will focus on for the coming year
1. Rent and Housing Affordability
2. Daycare and Childcare Cost
3. School Concerns Related to Bullying and Violence
4. Homelessness
5. Elder Care
Voting at the Annual Assembly
Each network member who attends the assembly can participate in voting. Members cannot vote by proxy. There will be about 15 minutes for congregations to caucus and figure out how many members are present and tally their votes for each category. Then a representative from each congregation will line up and report back their numbers. Because we will be voting in TWO categories, each network member gets two votes for the two categories they want to see FAST work on in the coming year. Please note: Network members cannot put both of their votes toward the same category. They must choose two.
All these problems are important. No matter what two problems receive the most votes, FAST will find solutions to address them and urge our local officials to take action to make Pinellas County a better place to live. For more information, please contact Lana Walter at lana@thedartcenter.org.
