Dear Gretchen,

As we head into the final stretch of July, there’s a lot happening at the DVBA.

We’re still in need of volunteers for our Boys & Girls Club project in Indio on August 12th and 13th. If you’re available between 9 AM and 2 PM on either day, we’d love your help in guiding over 100 youth through hands-on building projects and introducing them to careers in the construction industry.

Our Annual Bowling Tournament is also coming up, and lanes are filling quickly. Don’t miss your chance to join the fun, reconnect with colleagues, and compete for bragging rights, sign up today to reserve your spot.

Lastly, we want to extend our heartfelt condolences to our friend and colleague James Brownyard, whose Father, Charles Edward "Chuck" Brownyard recently passed away on July 16th, just a few days before his 87th Birthday. Chuck worked for Cal Trans for over 30+ years as an onsite engineer for the bridge department. His notable bridges included: The Coronado Bay Bridge, The Highway 805 Bridge, over Mission Valley, and the Pine Valley (Interstate 8) Bridge. He continued working after his retirement on the trolley in San Ysidro. Chuck was married to his wife Carol for over 60 years and they were truly inseparable. He is survived by his wife Carol May, son James Brownyard, daughter Lynn Rae Brownyard, and grandson Nicholas Brownyard.

A celebration of life will be held on August 2nd at the family home in San Diego.

Thank you for being part of our community and for continuing to support one another in meaningful ways.

Sincerely,

Gretchen Gutierrez

Keep Cool and Save: SoCal Edison's Smart Energy Program

Summer’s soaring temperatures don’t have to mean skyrocketing energy costs. SoCal Edison’s Smart Energy Program automatically nips peak-demand spikes by nudging qualifying smart thermostats up to four degrees—without you lifting a finger (and you can always override it if you get too toasty). Enroll by June 1 to grab a $75 bill credit, earn up to $40 more in seasonal credits, and score a $30 rebate when you recycle your old thermostat.
