Bond Project Updates, New Board Member

Dear AL Community,

Following the successful passage of the KCPS bond, Kansas City Public Schools and its nine charter partners, including Académie Lafayette, are now working together to phase capital improvements across more than 40 buildings. In addition, AL leadership is pursuing another opportunity that could help secure even more resources for our schools.

All proposed projects go through a structured approval process led by KCPS and Eskie + Associates to ensure transparency, quality, and efficiency. At AL, we are in the early planning stages. RFPs have been issued for turf and roofing upgrades at both Oak and Cherry, with other priorities still under review. A dedicated page on our website is in development to keep families informed—stay tuned for updates.

Two years ago, we invested in enhancing the Cherry playground. In that same spirit, we are now working with Oak parents to improve the Oak playground. This project is separate from bond-funded initiatives and will be supported through other means. We will share more details as plans develop.

Lastly, please join us in congratulating Brad Lewis, who has been elected as the new parent-elect member of the AL Board of Directors. Thank you to everyone who participated in the election.

Wishing you a safe and restful extended weekend, and thank you for your continued support!

Summer School Information

All families currently enrolled in the AL summer school program have been sent an email from alasker@academielafayette.org earlier this week. Please read that email carefully as it includes important information about your student's Upper Room and/or transportation status, as well as the school supplies list. If something is incorrect, please reply to let us know.

Note: Your student's enrollment forms must be 100% complete in order for your student to attend summer school. If you have been notified that documents are missing, please log in to PowerSchool as soon as possible to finish your student's 25-26 school year enrollment. If you need assistance, hit reply to get started.

From Our Nurses: Lice Information

As the school year draws to a close, we want to take a moment to remind everyone that while we are getting ready for summer breaks, lice don't take vacations. Lice do not carry or cause disease but are known for causing an itchy head and being a nuisance to get out of the hair. Lice do not jump or fly, and spread via head-to-head contact. To keep your child's risk lower, help them remember to avoid close contact and keep longer hair pulled back in a braid or ponytail. Remember to check your child's for lice periodically throughout the year as well as prior to attending a summer program. If you have any questions or do find a case of lice, feel free to contact your campus nurse for a nit comb and guidance on treatment.

MS Cheer Tryouts

The second cheerleading audition for incoming middle school girls will be held on June 12 at 4:30 pm in the Oak campus auditorium. Students interested in trying out should come dressed in a white shirt and black shorts or leggings. No jewelry or watches should be worn during the auditions.

Please Help! Host an Intern!

We are running out of time to find families to host our 2025-2026 French interns. Académie Lafayette needs families like yours to be able to continue to provide this unique program.  We are available to answer your questions and guide you through this amazing opportunity.
